Questions about Excelsior exams

Hi, I am studying for my first Excelsior exam, Lifespan Developmental Psychology. Does anyone know if the exam questions are straight forward or not? What areas should I hit hard on studying? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jen:uhoh3:

Hi Jen-Jen,

I passed all of the excelsior exams with mostly a's and a few b's. I found that the key to success is to set aside plenty of study time, read each chapter, and high light key points, then always take the practice tests at the end of each chapter.

Also, if I recall correctly, Lifespan Psych focuses a lot on the different psychologists and psychiatrists such as Erickson, Maslow, Piaget, etc? (It's been a long time! Sorry if my memory is fuzzy!!!)

Try to look at each age group listed and really try to memorize what is expected of each age group. Use little flashcards if you have to!

If you do well on the practice tests, you will do well on the real test!

I took Gerontology and Nursing Concepts 1, A's in both.

Think NCLEX-type questions for nursing tests, straightforward on psych and stuff. I would know who is behind what theory and what ages do what under which (theory, that is.).

I used the EC study outline and read and studied exactly what it said in the books they recommend and passed. Good Luck!
