Questions about Declaratory Order

Hello All,

I sure hope someone can help me out. I just received my letter of acceptance for my colleges Nursing Program in Texas. My questions is in regards to the background check. A while back I read over the requirements for acceptance into the program and was told I needed to file a declaratory order since I have a misdemeanor charge for something stupid i did 3+ years ago. I filed, went through the process and received the letter back from the Texas Board of Nursing giving me the go ahead to apply for the program. I applied this past october and I start in January. The problem comes from the packet I received with the acceptance letter. It says I need to clear a background check. Ofcourse, I wont. But when I submitted my application I included the letter from the BON stating I could apply even though I had a misdemeanor. I did NOT make a copy of this letter, really stupid I know. I'm not sure why they would specify I need to clear a background check if I included that letter. My question is, would they keep my paperwork and application packet on file? That way I can go up there Monday morning and request the letter from BON back and give them a copy. If for whatever reason they do not have this letter from the BON, can I contact the BON and get them to send me a letter again proving they have approved my eligibility or would I have to go through the 3-6 month process again?

I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks guys,

Ashley

Ashley - all of the schools send out the "background check" letter - almost all of the schools will tell you in your acceptance letter (IMHE) that gaining acceptance from the school is not impacted by your ablity to pass a background check - that is up to you/your past. Contact both the school and the BON ASAP asking if they have a copy of the letter - and get your own copy!

If the BON is willing to over look the issue, some site maybe as well. I know at my school each clinical site has their own set of standards for what they will accept or not in a background check.

the best of luck!
