Hi All!
I was wondering if someone could tell me the process of Baker's clinical application process. I'm going to talk to the Dean about this but I was just curious if someone here wouldn't mind filling me in. What are the steps in applying? What do I need to do? Also, if my pre-req's are finished by the end of the spring semester, can I apply for fall admission? They don't have a deadline for applying as of yet, but I was wondering if there has been anyone else on here that followed this route. Thanks for your input!!

You can apply in the Spring as long as you will finish your pre-req's that semester. If you have any classes to take in the Summer then you have to wait until Winter to apply. The packets will be out in April so you can get started on getting a packet together. This is the information for Baker-Flint, I am not sure if the dates would be the same for the other colleges but I assume the procedures would be. Which Baker are you attending? I will be applying in the Spring as well.
Does Baker have a waiting list as of now? I am looking at going to the Clinton Twp location
Baker doesn't really have a waiting list. It is all based on a point system, although you do gain a point if you apply once and are denied. The points system is based on your GPA (although, ENG101 and INF classes don't count) and your sciences classes are double weighted, the entrance exam and whether or not you have transferred in classes or withdrew from any classes. It's a complex system that I am not really sure anyone fully understands :) But I know at the Flint campus they accept 40 students twice a year and the past few terms anywhere from 120-160 people have applied. It's best to talk to the dean of the program at Clinton Twp if that's where you are looking at going. She will be able to give you the exact requirements of your location. I know it's a really competitive program at Baker-Flint. Good luck!

Baker-Flint is a really competitive program. I graduated in 08 and started Baker in the fall after I graduated. I finished all my prereqs over the Summer, with a 4.0GPA, and I applied for Winter and was accepted my first time applying. My full first week of classes in the nursing program was last week.
Baker does not have a waiting list. They use a point system... You lose points if you transfer credits in to Baker from another college, if you withdraw from a class... Your GPA also plays a big role in the point system. There is also an exam that you take, it was the HESI when I took it, that helps determine the amount of points you have. Baker is not using the HESI test anymore tho...
I'm not sure how the Baker sites determine acceptance... It might be the same, but I'm not sure.
Good Luck to you!
That's great you got in the first time! I have a 4.0 too so I am hoping to get in for Fall classes. If they are not using the HESI anymore do you know what they are using? Also, what is your schedule like your first semester? What days/hours are you going? Did you have a choice in picking your classes?
I'm not sure what the new test they are using is. I haven't heard yet. No, you do not get a say in your schedule at all... Your schedule is determined by what clincial group number you get put into... My schedule this semester is: Monday 8-10, 10:30-12:30 && on the 25th I have a lab starting with those two classes... Tuesday 12-4... Wednesday 10-12... && then my clinicals will be on Thursdays and Fridays... But the schedule is even busier then that because there are other things you have to attend besides class... There are all these different orientations you have to attend && computer trainings for the hospitals... Honestly, we all do about 40-60 hours of homework a week... Our first week was last week and from the time we get up until the time we go to bed (When we're not in class) we are studying, doing the reading, and doing homework...
We've have people alreadying wanting to give up, freaking out and crying all time time... It's very stressful... But people get through it all the time...
Wowww it sounds pretty hectic. Currently I am working 40 hours a week and am worried about how I am going to do once I start a program. I have my options open and am about done finishing pre req's for most of the schools I want to try to attend. I was thinking about Baker but after I saw a counselor I saw I would still have at least 7 more classes to take before I could start their program and they would penalize me for transferring in classes. So, unfortunately I am not going to be attending there. But good luck to those who are applying!!
Well that doesn't sound like too much fun. I'm not sure what I am going to do then. How are people with kids handling it? I have 3 little kids and my husband is leaving with the Army in a few months. Hopefully I have good group schedule!
I have a child and she's 3. I also have a husband but he works mostly at night which leaves me with my daughter. I am doing pre req's right now and because of my full time schedule at work it's hard to study but I have been making due. I have all A's and B's in my pre req's thus far. When I actually start a program I don't know what I am going to do when it comes to my schedule at work. I need to at least work 32 hours so that I can still get insurance because I carry the insurance for my household. So hopefully something works itself out!!
Where are you doing your clinicals at this semester? Are most people at a hospital? Sorry to ask so many questions but you are the first person I've talked to that is actually in this portion of the program! :)
