any current students either at the baltimore or shady grove campus i was wondering if you thought it would be okay to repeat one of the science classes...ive done okay in everything but chemistry. when i took gen chem my freshman year i got a C so i want to take it over but not if it would hurt me in the admissions process! so if anyone knows that would be very helpful! I would ask if it is necessary before retaking anything. Good luck!

Beth89,

I don't think retaking Chemistry would hurt you in the admissions process. However, I do agree with Jules. You should speak with someone, probably Amanda Barnes, to see if retaking it would really make a difference. I think that it would depend on what the rest of your grades are like. If you have all A's and only that one C, it may not matter. But if you have Mostly B's and this C brings your GPA down, it may be worth it. I know that I had a C in Pre calculus that I took about 6 years ago, but all my grades in the last two years were A's and 1 B. Although retaking the C would have brought my GPA up to a 4.9, Amanda said it wasn't really necessary given my other grades. Also, it would depend on how competitive the other items in your admission's packet was (i.e. Essay, References, NET score, etc...)

Also- Amanda explained to me last monmth at an info session that they will break your GPA out into three groups.

1. your core sciences and they will look most closely at this.

2. math, english, psych

3. electives

Then they will weigh your GPA based upon thhis ranking.

I agree with MZTwin though..it really is how strong your whole package is.
