Question for Recent Ivy Tech Evansville Graduates/Current Students

U.S.A. Indiana

Hi everyone. I have a question for recent Ivy Tech Evansville nursing students and graduates. How highly do you recommend Ivy Tech's nursing program (Evansville only please). I have applied for admission into the 2009 fall class, but am a little nervous after talking to a couple of students (and one not-so-recent graduate). None of them were very thrilled with the program and one of them even recommended that I go elsewhere. Are these just students angry about bad grades or something else? I was a bit surprised and was under the impression that our local Ivy Tech had an excellent reputation (not to mention, I had my mind set on going there). I have the grades to be accepted at another university (I think - straight A's in the pre-reqs + a pretty high Teas score), but preferred Ivy Tech. Any advice given is really, really appreciated! Please feel free to PM me if afraid to post here. It seems that many of the current students are scared to say anything critical about the program. Thanks!

I decided not to goto IVY Tech in Evansville because of the horror stories I've heard about the program. I worked at Deaconess before moving to South Carolina and everyone I talked to highly recommended Henderson's nursing program. All of them have said that the nurses that come out of Henderson are much more prepared than coming out of any one the Evansville schools. I drive 45+ minutes to get to campus, but it was the best choice for me. I was accepted into the fall '09 class, so I can't rave on them too much yet. All of the instructors and advisors have been very helpful though.

I went to IV tech in Evansville about 7 yrs. ago. I had been an LPN for about 8 yrs. I went to LPN school in indianapolis which was a very good program, not a Ivy tech, then we moved back to evansville. I hated IV tech in Evansville. It was a very bad experience. The instructors were awful and the clinical experience was very poor . Infact I am very glad I was an LPN first other wise I am afraid that I would not have been prepaired when I did graduate. Nursing school there seemed to be a populairty contest. I went thru what they called the transition program which was LPN to RN. The LPNs that had been trained at IV tech were very much favored over those of us who were not. I wish that I had went to Henderson. I have never heard any thing bad about that program. As a matter of fact my experience was so bad I will never go back to school for a BSN. I have been a nurse for 15 yrs. now and feel that I am very good at my jog. But was left with a very bitter taste in my mouth after graduating from that school.

Good Luck
