I posted this in general topics not realizing the specialty topics existed.
I am an ADN w/ 10 years SICU/NICU and CCU experience. I am looking ahead to a CRNA program and am wondering how a BSN from an on-line program will affect my application status? The only BSN program within a reasonable driving distance is actually across a state line that would drive tuition into the stratosphere. I would be applying someday to the programs at Baptist (Wake Forest School of Medicine) and at UNC-Charlotte (Carolinas Medical Center) Each of these programs is better than a 2h drive, so I'd like to keep the BSN mileage to a minimum, but I don't want a BSN that isn't going to get me serious consideration at Anesthesia school.
Thanks for your time, your thoughts are apprecaited.

especially since you know which schools you are going to be applying to, why not just phone them and ask the directors directly. that way you aren't guessing about what it is they want and don't waste any time or energy doing the wrong thing.

I would not worry about what on-line program to start, just make sure it is NLN accredited good luck nec :)

SARN,
I am presently enrolled as a SRNA. I too was concerned about my obtaining my RN-BSN degree on-line. I was an ADN nurse and while I obtained my one year of ICU experience I also obtained my BSN on-line. I applied to 5 schools, was admitted by two, an alternate at two, and was shot down by one. No one ever mentioned any concerns about my obtaining my BSN on-line. I do appreciate your concern and I think it would be a great idea to contact the director's at the school's you are considering applying to. In fact, I would suggest making an appointment to meet with them. Send all of your information to them ahead of time and then call to see when you could schedule time to meet with them to review your file to see what areas, if any, that you need to address in order to improve your chances for admission. This gives them a chance to get a look at you. Then when you come for an interview they have already met you. Good luck in your pursuit.

I haven't researched this much, but Univ. of Maryland has an online RN-BSN and from the course info states there is no on-campus meetings. You'll just have to work with a preceptor for the Comm. Health portion. I'm not sure what tuition is either. Take a look and see what you think.
Hope this helps,
Donn C.

I am 15 days away from completing my online RN-BSN program through UNC-Charlotte. I am planning to transfer to ICU/CCU in Sept/Oct and hope to go to school at UNCC or Baptist for my CRNA also. As far as I know, online rn-bsn doesn't hurt you. I believe that online programs make you do a little more work because you don't have to be "in class" and they have to make sure you meet all requirments.
Call and ask, what a great idea, lol. Why didn't I think of that?:chuckle Thanks for the responses, I am just looking ahead 4-5 years, but I'm very encouraged. My back feels better just thinking about it!
