Question about Prereq's

From what I understand: Curry requires Chem 101, MGH requires Chem 101 and 102 (if some organic is included), Simmons requires Organic Chem specifically, which you probably can't take without taking Chem 101 and 102 first.

I haven't taken any pre-reqs at Simmons because they are so expensive. I took Chem 101 at Massbay Community College.

I took my chem class at Northern Essex Community College. Forget what it was called, something like "Biological Chem" and it was a mix of both inorganic and (very basic) organic. Satisfied the pre-req requirement for MGH and if you've taken any kind of Chemistry before you'll find it very easy.

I was looking at Continuing Ed classes at Curry and they have this one listed:

• 1001 Chemical Concepts: 3 credits
  

An overview of general, organic, and biological chemistry. The emphasis is

on chemical concepts and applications for the health care professions.

Co-Req: Chem. 1002

• CHEM 1002 Laboratory for Chemical Concepts: 1 credit
  

An introduction to chemistry laboratory principles and practices for students

preparing for the health care professions. Fee.

Do you think this would fulfill MGH's chem req. as well? On the MGH site, it states "Chemistry (including some organic chemistry)"

I think the first one you listed (Chem 1001) sounds just right. Honestly, they didn't fight me on any of my pre-reqs so I think you'll be fine with whatever you choose.

I am having some issues too finding the right chem class to take. Has anyone taken the chem class thats offered online at MGH? I've never taken an online class and am wondering how that would work. Chem is definitely NOT my strong suit!

A lot of times courses like chemistry also require that you complete a lab. And if you're intimidated by chem you might benefit from being physically in a class, so I'm not sure an online course is your best bet... I don't know which programs you're interested in and what they require, but that's just my 2 cents.

This is a helpful thread - I am also looking for one chem class to satisfy the MGH requirement. My only hesitation with the ones listed above is that they can be pricey - since I will be paying a lot for the actual school, I'd like to keep the cost of the prereqs down! I also love to take my prereqs online as much online as possible - I'm taking several now through edukan, and it is great for someone like me who is also working and is a mom.

Juliewoo - the class through Northern Essex Community College looks like it meets in person and is supplemented online, am I correct? Unfortunately, I think the school is a bit too far for me to travel. It is great that it worked out for you, however!

To anyone who has been accepted, currently in, or already graduated from Curry's ACCEL program or MCPHS Worcester program: Did you have to take Chem 101 (and 102 for Worcester) or were you able to supplement it with a Biochemistry class? Was that accepted or frowned upon at any of the schools?

I took Chem 1 and 2 in college and passed, but absolutely hated it (Organic 1 was way worse, but I survived it too). I'm just wondering if there is a way for me to not completely avoid chemistry and still satisfy everyone's 'chemical' need xD... Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If you already took Chem 1 and 2 and got better than a C, the school should accept your previous course.

Thank you!! Your answer just helped me out a lot with what I need to do. Unfortunately I got C-s in both, but I'll just suck it up and take both this summer ... At least I know I can do better with the previous experience that I have from taking them previously.
