I have been working in ICU for the past two years, and, since I was truly burned out there and really felt that I need something 8 hours a day, five days a week, I applied for and accepted a position in surgery. I will be taking a cut in pay, as I got paid more for working nights. My orientation will be six months long, and, even when I'm off orientation and able to pick up call, the pay is not very good, unless I would actually get called in. Bottom line, I need extra money, and I am interested in doing per diem work on the occasional Saturday or Sunday. I just wonder if anyone has some insight or advice to offer me. I am worried that I can't complete an orientation anywhere, for weekend work, as I will be working full time, Mon-Fri starting in June. And I am working full time in ICU literally until a day before I start my new job in surgery. I just worry that I have made a really poor decision.
