Question for nursing students in Bay Area, CA

Hi, I live in the Bay Area, and I'm trying to figure out what schools I want to apply to next year. I read a thread about Merritt College in Oakland, and how 75% of the freshmen this year have already failed. It worried me, and now I'm wondering more details about all the other schools I'm interested in. So, if you go to CSUEB, SJSU, Chabot, Ohlone, Los Medanos, or Merritt (not Samuel Merritt), or some other school in the area, could you please share some details with me about attrition rates and how many students are admitted each year?

(please don't move this to the California forum :))

you might have read a thread that I replied to earlier. I go to Merritt in Oakland,Ca and will graduate in 2009. (No not samuel merritt.) From what I am hearing they may have lost about 75% of the class but take in mind they accepted over 100 students. Before this was not the case, they would max out at 60 and have approx 25-30 graduate with the original class. I don't mean to sound like a jerk but not everyone can be a nurse. I mean some people just lack the common sense, the ability to add and subtract or the ability to get their attitudes in check. With that said yeah Merritt is hard and is big on adult learning, they want you to seek out the answers before running up to them and asking. The first semester was the most cut throat and from our original class of 90 or so we are down to about 50. Alot of times work, outside stress, children or other obligations can get in the way of fully concentrating on school. And some just decide nursing was not for them afterall.I would apply everywhere you can, especially those colleges closest to your home. If you do get accepted to Merritt, shoot me your email and I will give you as much info as I can. Good luck and study hard.

I would take Merritt as A LAST option... I know a of student who graduated from Merritt, and she even does not recommend going there. I heard great things about Ohlone and Contra Costa. I will be at city college in the spring, so have you heard anything about them? I have not. Good luck.

OH, also Stockton and Modesto are both high in Graduating students.
