Question: Neonatal nurses & deliveries

hey everyone

i wanted to know whether NNPs or Neonatal Nurses are in the delivery room? or are they only in the delivery room for high risk deliveries? i would really like to witness/assist a delivery...

I have to admit I'm surprised. None of the nurses feel liable at anytime especially if something goes wrong that a MD didn't show up? I'm surprised that a MD wouldn't want to come in during the night. We have a NNP on 24 hours a day so she can call him and let him know what's going on. I'm not sure I'd want to be the nurse to make the decision that an infant should be extubated vs staying on the ventilator. But if you had specific standing orders, I could see that as an option.
