Does anyone know what the timeline is like after graduation to get the eligibility to test, schedule and take the NCLEX and then receive your license? I've heard there are ways to check if you passed the NCLEX sooner than waiting for the results in the mail, but what i'm wondering is how long do you have to wait/what do you need to have to start a new grad program? I assume you have to have a physical license in hand. Anyone know how long all this all takes? Thanks!!

Getting the ATT (authorization to test) depends on how fast your school gets the transcripts to the BRN. You can schedule the actual test taking anytime after you get the ATT via PearsonVUE. There are ways to "unofficially" check to see if you passed the NCLEX sooner. Try searching for it on the boards here or via a search engine... it's really no big secret.
As to when new grads start, each hospital has their own start dates (usually fall/winter or summer) with applications going live months in advance. For example, for the Summer/Fall new grad programs, some of the applications were going live in February to March (mainly March). Other hospitals that do not have an official new grad program may have positions open periodically that new grads can apply to.

I took the NCLEX on 1/11/12 and my license showed up on the CA BRN website on 1/18/12. I received the actual license card a couple days later. Some of my classmates were on a time crunch to get their license numbers before they started new grad programs but everyone eventually got it (after a few calls to the BRN managers). You just need to have the number not the actual physical license before the start. The big problem our class had was geting our eligibility to test but it really depends on the school because ours took their time sending in our transcripts which delayed things. They BRN takes like 6 weeks to process paperwork so I recommend turning in your app and paying your fees to the BRN AND Pearson Vue about a month before you graduate and hope that your school is on top of things and sends your class roster and transcripts fast! Good luck :)
Thanks jsrn535, you answered my question exactly. I've already sent in my app and fees. Hopefully my school doesn't lag on the rest!
