Question about multi-state licensure

Hello All!

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse and I currently hold licenses in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. I live on the border of both states in Kenosha, WI but I work in Illinois. I really would like to advance in my career by pursuing a degree in nursing and I would like to do so on-line. I have been looking at Excelsior's Associates degree program.

Since the state of Illinois requires graduates to endorse after two years of RN experience, I have been considering enrolling under my Wisconsin license. My question is, upon graduating from the program and passing the Wisconsin NCLEX-RN will I have to surrender my Illinois LPN license???

I am asking this because I have a VERY good job in Illinois as an LPN. I can advance in my company once I earn my RN (in Illinois). I planned on working part time in Wisconsin as an RN for the two year endorsement requirement while keeping my fulltime job in Illinois and then endorsing into Illinois after that time.

Does anyone know if one could concurrently hold an RN license in one state while holding my LPN license in the other?

Thank You!!!!

You should probably check with both of the state BONs on this. Good luck!!

I agree with checking with the boards of nursing. usually once you are licensed above your current license, then that is the standard you are held too, esp in any legal matters. good luck.
