Question on moving to the UK?

Published

I'am a personal care nurse and I live in the USA at the moment. I will be moving to a city outside of London to take care of elderly people. It would be extremely helpfull if anyone can give me information on requirments, passport info, anything I need to know about moving to the UK. Thankyou, Jean.

I don,t know anything about passport etc. I felt that as the was no replies I thought I better not leave you with the impression that we in the UK don,t want to help.

Any question about uk nursing I am sure you get lot of replies

Welcome to the uk when you arrive and good luck with your job

Jean,

You need a work permit to work here in the UK as a US citizen.. That is sponsered by the employer. Employees are not allowed to sponser themselves for a work permit. You have to register with the NMC prior to getting which is the UK equivalent of the STate Board of Nursing in order to practise as a RN here in the UK.

As a US citizen you will of course need a passport for traveling out of the US.

After being in the UK for four years on a work permit you can then apply to immigration for Indefinate leave to remain, which will then allow you to freely move about the UK without being tied down to a work permit.

You will need to keep up both your US liscense and your UK liscense to continue to practise as a nurse.

The website for the NMC is http://www.nmc-uk.org

Hope that helps a bit.
