Question about meth use in native american communities

Published

I remember hearing how devastating meth has been in the Native American communities. Back around 2003-2007, there were numerous articles detailing the fact that Mexican drug cartels were targeting Indian communities to sell and distribute their meth and it was having devastating consequences on the young people living there.

I was just wondering for anyone who may know, is it still such a problem now in 2011? I'm just curious and truly hope that its not so prevalent now as it was back then.

yep it's still a problem. meth affects native american communities as much as other communities, the caveat being that in tribal communities, the rank or class or caste of the individual affects their income, so while a few tribal people have nice homes, the majority live in trailers. and not to sound stereotypical, people in poverty receiving no-work-required income do have a predisposition towards drug use.

It's sad really.

And not a flame attack, or trying to really "type" a people, as my ancestry stems from this particular tribe.
