hello nurse1123,
i just finished that same chapter today. yes, i am guessing that they are basing the rationale on the fact that this task is in the scope of practice for an lpn/lvn. in the real world it is whatever the protocol of the facility, however in nclex world we just know that fingersticks are not in the uap/ nursing assistant's scope of practice. really enjoying this lacharity book!!
It’s interesting that you bring this topic up. I was in a meeting today where it was announced that starting January 1, 2012, our Patient Care Technicians will no longer be performing any glucose checks. There were no rationales to this. Perhaps there is going to be a change in the CNA’s Scope of Practice starting in 2012.
Good luck to all of you who are preparing to take your NCLEX exam. DON"T expect it to be EASY, just be prepared! Don't over analyze the questions, remember ABC's, review pharmacology, standard precautions, and LAB values. Most of all, take your time and think through each question. I took the exam for the first time 10 months after graduating and passed with 75Q. Saunders cd and kaplan review book (I borrowed the text from the library) were the material I used to study

Any feedback?
