Question on Drug Screening, How, and Where to get one????

Published

I just got accepted into a ADN Program in Michigan. However, I always known there was a drug screening test, and ever since i was 16 years old and went for a physical, the phelobomist(sp) stucked me at least 10 TIMES!!!!! I am terrified of needles and have gone to therapy and everything. So do they draw blood, and i know urine, but can't i just give a hair test???? I am terrified!!!!

1) It's most likely a urine drug screen

2) The best resource for info about your particular program and its requirements, is your particular program

Good luck

Thanks, I will do that!

I've never had a blood toxicology screen for employment, only urine.

I too have only ever had a urine drug screen.

In all of my years of working/schooling, all of my drug tests have been urine screens. I've never encountered a blood test for drug screening...that's not to say they don't do them, though. The best one to ask about it is your school.

And to be honest, try to manage your fear of needles now: between immunizations, yearly TB tests, blood samples to determine titers, and other things, you will probably have quite a few needles in your future as a nurse.

Also, if you're edgy around needles and you're the one handling them...besides potentially harming the patient, that's an accidental needlestick waiting to happen.

Typically its a urine drug screen for drugs of abuse- they test for up to 10 drugs. Though they do have a test that they can use hair, it looks back over a period of time vs what urine can do. I actually had that one a number of years ago, as a guy who shaves his head they had to use axillary hair-hahaha.

As where to get on generally your prospective employer does them. As far as school I never had to have one, but I would figure they would direct you to Quest or another lab.
