Question about CPR

Nursing Students General Students

Published

My school requires the basic CPR certification. However, I live near a medical school and the school is offering a special rate for ACLS (AED certification) I am not sure what to do. I would like to hear some recommendations. Part of me does not want to do it b/c I might already have plans for the weekend, however, if you believe that it is a certification that would be a plus for a nurse to have then I might reconsider.

Thanks

I do believe that you have to be certified in Basic Life Support before you can take ACLS.

I don't understand what you are asking. Are you saying there is some sort of special ACLS CPR class? There is a CPR class for healthcare providers that includes AED training, but believe me, it is so NOT ACLS. I spent time in a previous life as an ACLS-certified Paramedic. my advice is don't take ACLS until you have your degree and have a chance to use it whereever you work - but I think you may be confusing your terms. Please clarify.

sorry about the confusion, but you answered my question

thank you jov!!
