HI everyone,
Just studying here and question about the intake portion. If the patient is on IV, do you measure how much fluid has gone in so far or only the amount from when you step in the room to when you leave since they are only your pt. during that short time? same thing with drinking. I read someone said they marked the cup when they entered the room so you only mark down their intake when you are in the room or do you ask if they had anything to drink prior to you entering the room for instance if half the pitcher is already gone?
I am comfortable with my skills but it is those little things that I worry about that I might miss.
THANKS for any advice!!

from my understanding you would only include the iv solution on the pcs form under parenteral fluids if the bag finished during your pcs and you had to hang another one, (not including any of the fluid from the new bag) or if the iv fluid order changed from d51/2 to lr. then whatever was infused from the d51/2. make sense??? example: (change to new fluids during pcs) 1liter bag of lr that had 600cc left in it and you were switching to normal saline, you would put down 400cc of lr. hopefully i was helpful.
Thank you, I need to start thinking like a testing student instead of as the primary nurse for the patient.
