Question about Chemistry.

I have this class called Intro to Chemistry Health. It's like this mixture of General, Bio and Organic Chem. This class isn't that easy. Biology is simple compared to this. All my classes are simple compared to this one. It's loads of study.

Anyone else have this class or something similar. How do you study it? I mean, how do you absorb all this in? 2-3 chapters at a time before an exam. The professor I have don't make it simple either.

Sometimes you have to suck it up and find different ways to study. I think for all my Bio's (except 030) and Chem's were at least 3 chapters, sometimes 4 strung together for each exam. It was a lot. There were plenty of times for A&P 1 where my flashcards were over 130 for a few exams, when 70'ish was average for other Bio's

My chem 121 class; organic -bio- and general chemistry was just like this and I had nightmares about it the first few weeks. I have to be honest. I went to tutoring on day 1 , practiced everything I understood that my professor went over at least 25 times, and if I left not understanding a topic... I hired a private tutor then practiced 35 times.

Regarding things that need to be memorized; significant figures, physical/ chemical changes, conversions, rules regarding neutrons , protons, electrons, configurations, formulas condensed info on 1 sheet of paper front and back and review.

Some items will be easy electronic valances , greek prefixes, shapes, etc.. items listed - most will be reviewed 1st quarter of semester then you'll transition into bio and organic chem.

find Tyler Dewitt on YouTube - study until this becomes second nature.

I ended up with a B but if I weren't so scared of the topic and had more confidence in my routine I would have had an A+. I lost my cool during one test and got all the hard problems gas volume problems right but was too burnt to properly balance equations and name formulas ...easy stuff...blanked out. The more you practice the more proficient you will be .

I can't stress this enough but you have to study.

1. Understand the material - most important - go to tutoring 1st day of class if necessary, teachers hours, etc.

2. Practice

3. Get your mind right - its only a 16 week semester do all you can in a day , week, or weekend so that you have no regrets. No excuses do it.

4.Practice

5.Practice

6.Get an A+ that's the goal. Aim high.

Lastly, I took this class with a newborn baby, newly married - bonus step child, and full time job fast paced NYC commercial real estate after not being in school for years. You can do this!

Good Luck

Omg! I can totally relate!! There is SOO much to learn in my introductory to chemistry class. Our teacher snickered that our class will reduce 1/3 in size after the first exam! I study at least 3 hours a day just doing problems. Everything from significant figures to finding abundance of isotopes to dimensional analysis..... I am beginning to LOVE Chem though. Bio was an easy A compared to Chem

I should add I studied 3 hours a day for bio

I took a class called CHEM 110 during my second semester of college and it was a woozy. It was a mix of general and organic chemistry. It started with over 110 students in the class and quickly reduced to 50.

My professor was pretty great, but the way the class was structured was very time consuming! We had these homework packets every week that would be over 25-30 pages long that could only be completed in lab. There was no definite lab times so you would have to come to campus on your free time during certain times to finish up the packet and the lab for that day.

The TA was a total jerk! She was pretty harsh on grading & would fail students for forgetting to wear goggles or writing in pencil. Often times lab would close before all the students there could do the lab work for the week, so those students would receive a 0 for that lab.

I studied pretty hard for that class, sometimes I would have nightmares about sig figs! I would visit my high school chemistry teacher after class once a week to review the material that I didn't understand during lecture as well as reviewed with him before my midterm and finals.

Just try your best and you'll get the results that you deserve! I ended up with an A in the class :)

Good luck!
