Hi all, I would just like to ask if all nurses from the Philippines are required to take a birding course even if all the qualifications/reqts are met based on ahpra and Anmc websites? I'm thinking also if they credit masters in nursing taken in the Philippines. Any inputs will be gladly appreciated. ThAnks in advance.
Typo error- its supposed to be bridging

The short bridging courses are designed to assess if the nurse in clinically competent as an Registered Nurse in Australia.
The theory part is educating the overseas nurse into Australian health system, values, culture etc etc.
If a nurse from the Phillipines has at least 3 months experience in english speaking countries, such as the UK, Canada, Ireland, USA, it appears that AHPRA do not require the bridging course, because the nurse has proven themselves clinically competent.
A masters degree in nursing, in Australia can only be undertaken if a nurse has at least 1-2 years clinical experience.
On these observations, I would say yes and no. If you have not experience in the said countries, then yes you will be required to do a bridging program and no the Masters degree would not get you are free pass, past the bridging program as a masters, taken in the Phillipines, would not address the objectives of a bridging program in Australia
thanks ceridwyn, that was really helpful... If i intend to apply under the GSM independent, does it mean that after my assessment with ANMC, ill register with APHRA then take the bridging course before i could lodge my application to DIAC? thats how i see the process. thanks again :)
You cannot register until after the bridging course, then Register as a nurse.
Personally I would be assessed by AhPRA first then ANAMC then once registered and assessed by ANAMC apply for GSM btw need 7 in IELTS.
Are you aware the GSM changes in July to EOI, expression of interest, then if nurses are still on the SOL list, you will be given an invitation to apply for a visa.
yes, ive read that somewhere. before i could apply for EOI, i should be done with registration and assessment? i am so sorry if i have a lot of questions. Im trying to figure it out if i could do the process on my own. Thanks
ok, ive read your message again. got a clear picture. thank you so much ceridwyn :)

There's a huge thread about the bridging program for nurses from the Philippines. Try reading that.
To begin with, you are basically applying for registration as a nurse. You apply, through mail, to AHPRA. Check their website for the requirements and the needed forms. You also have to have an IELTS Academic with a score of at least 7 on all sub test. Then wait for AHPRA's decision, which is for you to undertake a bridging program.
Just a quick sequence:
1. IELTS exam
2. Apply to APHRA and Wait for decision
3. Find a school that offers a bridging program and apply
4. Student/short term visa application
Good luck.
