Question About Employment

Published

Hey everyone,

I was wondering, if I don't do a nurse externship in university, get a lot of work experience in a hospital, put it on my resume, am I still likely to get a job once I graduate? Or does that put me in jeopardy of not being wanted by any hospital?

I'm a 3rd year (Junior) nursing student getting her BSN. I go to a hospital and work with the nurses for some extra experience but not as an extern and in the state I live (MD), they require you are CNA certified to work in the hospitals. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do because I only have a year left as a student nurse before I take the NCLEX-RN.

Hi everyone,

I just want to share my experience in during my SEC Assessment for my CRNBC application. I went to Canada five months on a tourist visa to take my SEC Assessment. I prepared 6 months of studies for this assessment and NCLEX-RN. I passed the NCLEX-RN so I thought I could pass the SEC Assessment too. I was wrong!!!

The assessment consists of several types of exams. Written, Interview and Actual (Return Demo). Being a new graduate, you do not have enough hospital experience to be able to answer the questions from the interview and return demo. The written exam is also hard.

To make the story short, I went back home after 6 months stay in Canada. I received my SEC result yesterday and I was very upset to find the report. They said that I do not have the knowledge and experience of a newly graduate nurse in BC. They are requiring me to take Bachelor's Degree in Nursing again that is acceptable to them before I can apply for registration. I called CRNBC yesterday as soon as I received my report and they told me that indeed, that is the result of my assessment and that I need to take another BS degree in Nursing. I asked them if I am the only one to have this kind of result and they said there are hundreds of applicants who receve this kind of result.

I am confused as to what will be my next move. Anyone here have the same experience, please share your comments and concerns or even opinion.

Thanks in Advance.
