Hey all,
I need help. I completed all my pre reqs in Washington state, we did quarters. I am being forced to relocate to Los Angeles and am finding that I don't meet credit requirements. Most schools are semesters, so I am coming up short on credits Any suggestions for how to fix this? I've had 2 schools tell me I need to retake all my science courses to meet the minimum credits needed... So discouraging! I have 10 years experience as an MA, and a 3.78gpa... did I just waste a ton of time and money?

Get course descriptions on all the courses you took in Washington. Petition the school, you never know what the outcome may be.

I did my prerequisites in WA as well and have found that my options were limited even just by crossing the river into OR. Luckily, I only had issues with my A&P credits. My school had two 5-credit A&P classes, totaling 10 credits. Many schools require 12 credits in OR. They didn't make me retake the entire series, but I do have to take their A&P 3 to make up for the deficit.
Keep looking into schools and asking! After a quick google search, it looks like only three community colleges in California use the quarter system. Foothill College, Lake Tahoe Community College, and De Anza College. They're all in the northern part of the state, though. Several 4-year universities are on the quarter system down there, though. It looks as though all of the UC campuses use it along with several private 4-year institutions to get your BSN.

Yes, unfortunately many of the schools (especially the CCs) down here will say that you are short on units. Try to petition the schools/bring the course descriptions and keep searching like turtleki and thewhitechickoj have mentioned. Look into both ADN and BSN programs (including private). There were a couple of people at an information meeting for my school's nursing program who were in a similar situation. The presenter essentially advised them to retake the courses at a school that did meet the requirements. I can only imagine how frustrating this is. Best wishes!
