Heard two things at work today. Three actually....
One of the aides said she heard I was getting my degree by mail (argh!).
Also found out the most incompetent nurse I know (about the only truly incompetent nurse I know) got her degree through Excelsior. Boy I hope that doesn't get around! Ignorant people might keep that in mind when I am applying for nursing position within! Although I'm sure they didn't even notice or care about that when she applied for the job (she's been around maybe only 6 months, had to have her orientation extended). Now I know that has nothing to do with anything (she said the CPNE was a breeze as long as you didn't let anybody scare you!) but people can be pretty ignorant, and many are already skeptical about this degree I'm earning.
(Also found out my manager, who hasn't been too supportive of me moving up the ladder [unit secretaries are harder to find and keep than nurses believe it or not, in our hospital anyway] is leaving!)
Last NC exam coming up Saturday! Cross your fingers!

That was like 6 months in a nursing home then a group home for most of those years -- then a little in-home care. People ask why I want to go back to CNA work if I'm going to be an RN in 6-8 months, and it's exactly because I have NOT had hands on (except the occasional help pull up) in almost 2 years. I know I need to be comfortable walking into a patient's room and digging in before I get to the CPNE.
I appreciate everyone's support ... still hope word doesn't get out here. I'd rather be the one setting the 'example' of what an EC nurse might look like.
And ageless -- I don't have my bosses' positive attention -- the card was from my bosses' boss, and she sent a personalized one to everybody. Even then it shows she doesn't think I have enough clinical experience. Fortunately my boss is leaving for another floor, she's been a stick in the mud about the whole thing the entire time I've been there. Unfortunately, she'll also be covering ours til they find a replacement which could take a while. She made it pretty clear that with 7 graduates from our floor I shouldn't even bother to apply here, I'm kinda thinking it may be to my advantage that I'm graduating a couple months behind everyone else... maybe not because they've created extra positions on every floor to accommodate graduates so new openings might just dissolve through the summer. I won't apply on the floor she is going to ... that leaves a few places, so I'm not toooo worried but it'd sure be nice to stay put.
