Qualifications to work outside Canada

Published

I started my Nursing program early this year (2014) in Canada. I'm aware that I have to take the CRNE board exam after my 4 years. what i'm wondering is, if i plan to work in another commonwealth country or the States will I have to take another board exam to be able to practice there? If I do, what are they? Is it best to take my CRNE and the other board exam at the same time?

(I'm very interested in travelling and taking my nursing career in other countries. I wanted to know what my limitations are regarding my goal.)

Yes you have to pass the CRNE first. You cannot write the other exams at the same time because you need to apply and processing and getting permission to write takes time. All countries have their own exam.Getting a license and working on other countries is very difficult. Not impossible, but very difficult. The UK job market is bleak and they will hire a UK or a an EU citizen before someone from Canada,Plus if you were planning on working in a country where English is not the first language you would need to be fluent in their official language.Working in the US would present it's own difficulties due to the poor job market. With thousands of their own nurses looking for work they don't need to import.
