Though I'm getting way ahead of myself, I was reading some job postings for CRNAs recently. I noticed that they said in addition to "ACLS certification; certification from accredited AANA program or Master's Degree; and national certification, as appropriate", the first requirement listed was "State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License". I am confused about the Advanced Registered Nurse Practioner License requirement. Is this in addition to becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist? Can anyone offer any clarification?
Thanks!

like any other nursing you have to apply to the state board of nursing in the state where you want to work. youre national certification says you are qualified to work in any state but licensure makes it legal in that particular state. now the only exception i know of is the VA, i dont think you have to have a state license to work at a VA *of course i could be wrong*

I think the rule with the VA is that if you are licensed in any one state, you can work for the VA anywhere in the U.S. You still have to maintain a license somewhere.
Thanks for your responses!
So, do you mean that as a CRNA, you are registered as an "advanced registered nurse practioner" as opposed to having general RN status?
Hope I'm making sense.

I think what is asked is for a license to practice in an advanced role, something the state board of nursing grants (for an additional fee beyond the RN fee) after submitting the paperwork that indicates your graduation from an accredited program. For my NP license in Texas, they wanted me to submit my course description from my pathophys class (why this class?) and a letter from my department chair attesting to my qualifications. this was on top of my NP certificate. I assume similar situations apply for CRNAs to be licensed??
Besides the VA, military folks can work with any state license. Maybe Public Health Service as well?
