Well I took the NCLEX for the first time in August and failed with 75 questions; humiliating right....so here's what I did wrong:
1)Use ONLY virtual ATI as recommended by my school (which they paid for)
2)Not study every day
Virtual ATI was a no-go for me because after you take a test, you have to REMEDIATE (which we all hated doing in nursing school to begin with)which consists of going through the book provided to find the answers to the questions you got wrong....THAT'S STUPID because I didn't retain any information just was going through the motions.
ANYWAYS, found out I failed and cried like a baby for hours and hours at a time. My lovely fiancé purchased UWORLD for me that same day and I began studying IMMEDIATELY all the way until my next test date in late September. As if I am not already stressed out enough during these 6 weeks, I get a call from my recruiter saying that they have to 'fill' the RN position I was previously offered because they were waiting for me to pass my test...MORE TEARS...this pushed me to go harder...did 100 questions a day at least sometimes more...purchased the NCLEX mastery app just for extra practice averaging 59% and 62% on UWORLD. Also used the LaCharity Priority, Delegation, and Assignment 3rd ed. book which was AMAZING!
TEST DAY: Had oatmeal and hot tea for breakfast, listened to gospel music all the way to the testing center, got there early to brush up on lab values in my car and say at least 4 different prayers before entering the building. Got to my computer and prayed again...during the test, the questions seemed slightly easier than the last (maybe because I was more prepared)felt down when I got questions that I thought were super easy because in my mind this meant I was failing (prayed more)...computer shut off at 75 questions AGAIN...18 SATA, maybe 4 drag/drop, and the rest priority basically...I exited the room with tears in my eyes.
After about 10 minutes for leaving the testing center, I got the email form NCSBN about having completed NCLEX blah blah blah...pulled over and did the PVT (which is about 15 minutes after completing exam)got the good pop-up THANK JESUS!!!
Did the PVT every time I thought about it (A LOT) within my 48 hour wait for the quick results; also did it 10 minutes before the results posted just to make sure I still got the same thing. Finally at 9am, 4 letters have never been so beautiful...I PASSED!!!!!! Owe it all to God. Same day I passed I emailed my recruiter to tell her I re-applied for the position and she called me saying the position was mine! Two blessings in one day...more tears...God is awesome!
TAKE AWAY: You can do this...a 75 question fail can be turned into a 75 question pass with the right preparation...I highly recommend UWORLD, LaCharity, and doing as many questions as possible daily...last but not least PRAY; All things are possible through Christ
Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK TO ALL! NCLEX is tough but so is this profession...take a breath and do your best...You Got This!
