purchasing your own health insurance

I'm planning of buying my own insurance before taking on this venture but I was told by a recruiter that this tends to be pretty expensive. From what I've seen for the kind of insurance I want, the total(eye, dental, health) was in the $100-200 a month range. Is this accurate for the cost of "good" insurance?

HMO plans are a fail for travelers. You should do some searches for out of state providers even with PPO to see if coverage is available when traveling.

I must say I'm stunned by the plan costs you are being quoted. Are these plans subsidized on an exchange or from an employer?

I think that's why I'm leaning towards PPO. I want more flexibility. I'm going to assumed they're subsidized as they're not from an employer. I'm trying to find something so that when I take time off from travel, I'm still covered by something I like. I'll give more information if I happen to purchase it. I want to make sure that what I'm putting out here is accurate. :)

Yeah....these prices are legit. I went to the blue cross blue shield website and received the same monthly quote for ppo health insurance. Less than $200 a month with a deductible of 6k or less. so I'm thinking age and health and location factors into it. As this is my local quote.
