Puerto Rico school feedback?

OH MY!!! Hopefully I can figure something out. I really cant afford a new car. I actually am still paying on the one I have now.

HI i applied to get in around Feb/March.. i sent in my applications, transcripts, and course catalog. I have a&P, chemistry, microbiology, computer, math, english, etc. i wanted to know what my chances are to get into the accelerated program

also where do you guys suggest to live, i wouldnt mind living by the beach but just wondering about how transportation to and from school will look like. Im also debating if i should send my car. if you guys have any estimates that would be great also.

hihopes I didn't want to scare you. You can find used cars here you just have to be extremely careful. And when you buy anything used there is only so much protection you can have against the item. And it is harder here. But it is possible to find cars.

You will not be able to start the accelerated program in the late Feburary trimester. As I stated a few posts up the accelerated program only starts August 1, and there is also an unofficial Nov 1 start date. But if you don't have a Bachelors then that is another story. I am not very familiar with the non-accelerated program.

Where you live is entirely up to you but no matter what I suggest you have a car. You can live near school or somewhere near the train line and not have a car but your life will be limited. Everyone I know without a car is trying to get a car.

I have only met one person that shipped his car and that info is posted 3 posts up.

I live in Ocean Park and I live inside the Ocean Park gated community. I know people that have lived right outside the gate and have had some security issues. However living inside Ocean Park is probably the second most expensive. The first would be Isla Verde which has huge apartment buildings that are like 20 floors. Isla Verde is very touristy and the farthest from the school of the local beach places. It is actually in the city of Carolina and is not part of San Juan. In my opinion it is too expensive, way too touristy, kind of flashy because all the expensive hotels and casinos are there, and just not my scene.

On the other side of Ocean Park is Condado. Again it's not really my thing and I don't think the beaches in Condado are as nice as the beaches in Ocean Park. Also I just don't like the Condado set up. Lots of apartment buildings but they are not as tall as the ones in Isla Verde.

Ocean Park is more residential. Of all the people I know that live at the beach about 90% of them are in Ocean Park. Most of these people are from the La Inter nursing program.

I live in a place that is a guest house behind a main house. The main hose was converted into apartments at some point but it is not an apartment building per se. If you want to map me my neighbor's adress is: 2054 calle España, San Juan, PR

I gave my neighbor's adress for security reasons. ANd these adresses I am leaving should Google without any problems.

Calle Loiza is the street that separates Ocean Park and Condado from Santurce. I have friends that pay 500 for 2 two bedroom in Santurce and they are still only two blocks from the beach. But they don't have parking and both of them have had random things taken off of their cars and they have old crapy cars. An address near them is: 101 Calle Taft, San Juan, PR

So it is all give and take. I would rather pay a lot more and feel safe and see the security constantly driving around and not have to worry about my car.

Also Isla Verde is near impossible to park so friends don't want to go to your place because they can't park. Condado is a tiny bit hard to park. You may drive around a bit but you should eventually find something. Ocean Park inside the gated community is super easy to find parking. I have a parking spot but if I didn't it would not really matter.

You can also look for a roommate at first but it was AWFUL so I decided I could never live one short block from the beach in California and pay what I do and live alone. There are some other roommate stories that din't work out but there are others that did.

The best way to find a place is to drive around and call the for rent signs in the area you want to live in. More than 80% of these places are NEVER listed online anywhere so you would miss out if you just tried to call the places online.

They are starting to send out the acceptance letters for the FEB/MARCH today. I hope i can get in and prepare for the move. Is there anyone there now that can help me find out if they got my transcripts?

DyNastyAJ you said you are applying for the accelerated program. Please read my posts. This is the third time I am stating there is NO accelerated program to start in the end of Feb trimester. There are absolutly no begining nursing classes in the third trimester. So you would have had to have already taken Basics, Fundamentals, Fundamentals lab, Pharmacology, Psychosocial, Psychosocial lab, Adult Care I, and Adult Care I lab. You would then start Adult Care II, Adult Care II lab, Maternity, and Maternity lab in Feb.

However if you do not have all those classes it is IMPOSSIBLE to start the accelerated program in the 3rd trimester.

Unless you do not have a Bachelors and are non accelerated then you would just take general ed until August when you could start the nursing classes.

I visited UMET yesterday, the program is divided into bimesters (8weeks) You should be done in 2 years

Hello, I am trying to get more information from UMET, but am having trouble reaching anyone that can answer my questions. An email or phone number with a name would be great. Or maybe someone can answer some of these questions:

1.) Where is the application to UMET BSN program?

2.) What are the requirements/pre-requisites for someone with a college degree? Do ALL transcripts need to be mailed?

3.) Where would I mail them?

4.) I am visiting PR in May. Is it possible to get accepted and registered before them from Texas? Or is there a better chance in person?

If anyone knows the answers to any of these, please reply back!

Thanks Yogi for the info!!! I am going to look into both Ocean Park and Las Cumbres just in case I don't have the vehicle thing situated. I know not too many people are still on this thread. BUT...YOGI you are tremendously amazing and very, very helpful! Thank you!

I also sent all of my paperwork in today. E told me to send originals to admissions and copies to DR. A. A. So I sent the admissions by certified mail and the one to Dr. A.A. first class. I am super excited!

Anyone else wondering what happened to the last 4 or so pages of this thread?

Yogi, I was wondering if you have become fluent in Spanish in the time you have spent living in PR.

Has anyone become completely fluent at all, or feel as if they will be fluent by the end of the program?

Yes that is quite annoying. There were other threads I was getting info from and that info has now disappeared due to this update they did where we could not access the forum for over a week.

Ha fluent in Spanish! Nope, not at all. I had never studied Spanish and tried when I arrived. Even shelled out a ton of money to Pan American which is a language institute in San Juan and I studied at La Inter.

Everyone speaks English so you have to make an effort to speak and learn Spanish. I studied French for 15 years before I considered myself fluent. So I stopped with the Spanish because I was spending a lot of money but not feeling I was getting anything out of it.

It would be different if I was living in a Spanish speaking country where English is not spoken.

I plan to study Spanish from the beginning when I return to CA.
