BSN Student Needing interview with Public Health nurse

Specialties Public/Community

Published

Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum, however, my husband posts here all the time. He is a busy body, I am more quiet and shy.

I am an RN working towards my BSN and I am needing to do an interview with a Public Health Nurse as part of my Community Nursing course. I will list the questions below. I would really appreciate any feedback.

Public Health Nurse Interview Questions:

1. Locate and interview one community health/public health nurse.

    • Include name, place of employment, position, length of employment, and level of education of the person in your summary.

2. How does this person define health?

3. What services does this public health agency provide? Is the care community-oriented or community-based?

4. How are the three levels of prevention implemented? Provide examples.

5. What role does public health nursing have in population health and in individuals?

6. What about the person's job makes them most proud?

If you would prefer to email the answers to me I will provide you with my email address.

Hi there -

Just FYI, most nurses on here won't answer student interview questions like this....the idea being that these assignments are generally supposed to put you in touch with live humans in your own community. Also, you have no way of knowing that any of us are legit nurses, since the site doesn't vet people or check licenses before we sign up. For all you know I'm a construction worker, right?

If you're a shy person I can understand the appeal of doing this online, but you're probably gonna have to force yourself to make some phone calls. I would suggest calling your county or city public health office and asking where you can speak to a nurse. I work for county public health, and we get calls like that regularly - someone is usually willing to help out. Good luck! --Jen

Thank you for your input. The problem is not so much an issue of shyness, it is due to limited options. I live in a rural community and all of the community nurses that are even remotely local are all ADNs and the assignment asks for BSN nurses. The program I am in is online and the nearest city of any size is 2 hours away. As far as verification goes, I can verify licenses via the BON website through a name search. The only option I have at this point is a school nurse and even though that could be counted as a community nurse, I feel like it is missing the mark to a degree as she will not have the experience of someone who fills that role.

So, with that in mind, if anyone is willing to help me, I would appreciate it.
