Psychosocial For 6 Month Old

Updated:   Published

Healthy 6 month old infant of Asian descent comes in for checkup and vaccinations. Nurse observes 5 burns to the abdomen. The mother explains that her culture uses these burns to cure constipation and night walking. How could I complete a psychosocial care plan on the infant?

At six months the infant is 'nightwalking"? How is the child getting out of the crib? Burns for constipation? that sounds like child abuse. Can you locate health care experts in an Asian community to find out how this belief can be changed? Is the mother part of an Asian community? You don't need a psychosocial plan..you need a physical and child safety plan.

I understand and value that we need to respect the traditions of other cultures. But frankly, I cannot respect any cultural treatment that causes harm and really has no basis for a cure/

Sorry I should’ve mentioned this in the original post. I have already made a physical care plan, but I am in need of a psychosocial one too. I wasn’t exactly sure what to include?

You don't need a psychosocial care plan... you need the telephone number of CPS...  You are responsible to call CPS about burns.  That is physical abuse, plain and simple. And if the baby is constipated there is neglect if it is not being treated. The poor baby.
