Psychology or Nursing?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm having the hardest time picking which to major in. I like both. I know with psychology I have to go to grad school and I wouldn't mind that. This semester I'm taking my prerequisites for the nursing program at my school, just in case I do pick nursing.

Psychology BS will take me about 3 years.

Nursing BS will take me about 5 years.

In both fields I can work with children. A career in which I'm helping children is pretty much my dream.

I really just don't know what to do.:sniff:

Coming from someone who is a psychology major, and wishes they had chosen nursing I know how difficult this choice can be. When I finally realized nursing was for me I was half way done my psychology degree... my best piece of advice is before you decide expose yourself to as much experience in both fields as you can. Get your CNA and see if you can handle a nursing environment, the interaction with patients the body fluids etc. Volunteer at organizations that work with kids like an after school program for underprivileged or troubled youth. Before you make any type of decision you need to think long and hard about it. No one else can tell you what it right for you, it might seem hard but deep down you will know what's right for you.

You are aware that there is such a thing as pediatric psych wards, yes? And these wards house youngin's that require nurses. Psych nurses, to be exact.

mmhm.

Just throwin' it out there.

Besides, another way to look at it is immediate investment to immediate return probability:

BS in nursing = making a decent wage while attending school to further one's education.

BS in Psychology = well....erm....that is to say, let's just say my six friends who have a BS in psych have interesting jobs in anything other than what they spent oodles of money earning their BS in.

Okay, so the above sentence was a grammatical nightmare. Regardless, I think you catch my drift.
