about psychiatric nursing course

I graduated from outside united states,hold associate degree of nursing.I need to make up psychiatric nursing in order to finished an evaluation of my application for licensure as a RN in CA.

I need to make up both theory and clinical practice,it is a terrible .no one nursing school can accept out of country applicant who take one course.

any sugggestins and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You may have to enroll in an associate's degree program in California and then challenge or test out of as many classes as you can. You might end up taking more classes than just psych to meet the school's requirements for graduation, but at least you'd be able to work in the US as an RN.

I would suggest that you ask the Ca board of Nursing for suggestions. They should be able to recommend a school. Lucianne may be right but it seems excessive to have to enroll in a full nursing program to get one course.

I imagine that you have been able to find work as a nurses aid of some sort. I would recommend that you look for work as a mental health aid. The pay would be similar but the experience would be more valuable. A large part of psych nursing is learning what the specialized jargon of our field means and developing a "feel" for how psych pts behave.
