hi
anybody know why most psych nurses wear street clothes? the places i am looking at are REQUIRED to wear them vs scrubs and I am just curious why that might be. this is not their problem but I have been a nurse for SO long that I have no clothes . i only can think of the milgram experiment where people seemed to respect (ah too much) the medical situation and thought it almost might be more therapeutic - not just cuz I dont want to buy new clothes :).
thanks,
edie
I am all about my dansko clogs, some neat-as-a-pin kaki or other color cotton slacks and a vest with long sleeved tee. I have an array of brilliantly colored pullover tees and zip up fleece or quilted vests (Lands End). It is warm, conservative, and colorful/cheerful. I am a PMHNP, and this is how I dress most days unless I have a meeting or special visit (then I go for a nice dress or skirt and top). But the vest and slacks - Add a nice scarf (watch for strangulation hazard) and jewelry, and voilà ! as a psych RN on an inpatient unit years ago I wore the same vests and long sleeve tees but with a pair of scrub bottoms. And, and, and, NEVER wear heels. Even with a dress or skirt (unless maybe off site at a conference or whatever). In the medical profession, you can wear anything with nice clogs........even a business suit.....in my opinion.

Would wear scrubs every day if I could --- more comfortable than jeans - pocket for my phone & layerable. Also looks better on me than my own clothes, Sheesh.
