Is there anyone out there that only wants to do psych nursing?

I recently accepted a med surg job after leaving pysch, and realized I have no interest In the medical aspect of things. I love the one on one I get with psych.

Specializes in PMHNP student.

As far as I'm concerned, all this worry about "losing your medical skills" by working in psych is moot anyway--if your love is psych and what you intend to keep doing indefinitely, who really cares? Therapeutic communication and psych assessment are a whole other set of skills that we get to hone that nurses on med-surg floors may not have to the degree that psych nurses do (I'm sure of that, actually), so it's just focusing on one skill set over another--the most relevant skill set to your chosen area of nursing! I say go for what you love--life is too bloody short.
