Published Jul 29, 2002
I just wanted to get some insight from some experienced nurses in the is field. The good vs. bad? Would you recommend this specialty to someone else? What would you tell a new nurse just starting in this field? Any info. you can give will be most appreciated. Thank You. :kiss

Down side -- patients are much sicker when they come in these days and we don't keep them as long. There's not much for them in the community, either,
Up side -- it's interesting and mentally challenging, never boring. It's VERY RARE to have a patient die (the exception is geropsych).
For a new nurse -- One thing to remember is that your patients are much more likely to be scared than they are likely to be scary!
Create well-written care plans that meets your patient's health goals.
