I have been a nurse for 6 years now, with that entire time being NICU. I have always had an interest in mental health and have lately been considering going to school for my PMHNP. I currently have a MSN in nursing education, so I would be able to do a post master's certificate program. My first question, is it possible to transition to a psych NP role with no mental health experience? And second, how rigorous is the program? I have an almost one year old at home so wondering how well I can balance school, work and family. The plus side is I currently work part time so I work 2 nights a week. We often have downtime so I am also able to study while at work sometimes. Any opinions or advice is much appreciated!!
