Psych NP to CRNA

Hi,

This may be a stupid question. I have a MSN and am board certified as a Psychiatric/Mental Health NP and practicing the last 5 years. If I wanted to become a CRNA now, would I be able to do a post-master's or DNP as a CRNA with all the coursework and clinical work that entails, or would I have to go be an RN in an ICU/ED for 2 years, then apply for a new Master's/Doctorate, etc?

Just curious. Thanks for any info. I have sent some emails to schools asking about this too.

You need at least one year of critical care experience to qualify for nurse anesthesia school.

If its any consolation im sure that you would easily get right into school after a year. Your biggest issue is going to be to convince your ICU unit to let you work there knowing that you will be leaving soon.

You can if you have a recent ICU experience even as an NP. I am just starting CRNA as post master's to bridge to DNP. My MSN was in ACNP and working in the ICU.
