Psych NP - Army Reserve - Questions

Hello,

I am contemplating a position in Army Reserve as a Psych NP. If anyone out there is currently (or recently been) in this role, could you share your experience? I talked to a recruiter today and she is going to seek an age waiver for me (I'm 49.) She gave me some information, but I need to find a way to connect with someone who has actually done this. What are the drills like? Do you get to use your psych skills? Do you prescribe? What is the pay like? Thanks in advance..

I pursued this quite heavily last summer, as well as in preceding years, for both the army and the navy. The navy healthcare recruiter was highly enthusiastic, but THREE of them dropped the ball. The army AMEDD guy didn't seem to give two ****s and acted like I was wasting his time asking questions. Both seemed wishy washy about it all, and as much as I wanted to pursue this I have become disgusted by the recruitment process to such a degree that I have no desire to go through it. I respect the military and always wanted to be a part of it. I'm colorblind and was limited to what I could do so I wrote it off. Later in life, when I developed needed healthcare skills and saw that I could provide that service in the military I sought the military out, but I couldn't get anywhere. Now, my wife is against it, and I'm soured over it all and would literally have to have them knock on my front door saying, "if you want it you're in" for me to agree to it. Then my wife would probably leave me so it wouldn't be worth it.
