Psych hospital

I don't know how many of you are following what is happening in Saskatchewan but, our psych hospital is 100 years old and very institutional as you can well imagine. The government has said we are getting a new hospital. I have been in the present Sask hospital and it is, well for lack of a better word, creepy. I guess you'd have to see it but it is the home of people and it looks like a place where ghosts live.

They have taken data from CCAs, patients, LPNs, RPNs(registered psychiatric nurses), RNs and brought it all to the table. They focused on the patient and the flow of the wards.

Today my nursing class walked through the 3D mock up of the new Sask Hospital. The change that is going to take place is amazing. They told us they are expanding to add more LPN positions. They are ensuring a lot of natural light, zen areas, more privacy. Mental health care has come a long way in 100 years and these improvements will only change things for the better.

(I've looked for images that will reflect what the hospital will look like but nothing is online yet.)

Between this and the new children's hospital it is an exciting time to be entering nursing in Saskatchewan.
