Protocol Book?

Do any of you know of a good reference book for protocols in NICU nursing? Thanks, Janet

Janet,

See the "sticky" notes at the top of the NICU forum. There are MANY good suggestions there!

If you go to http://www.nann.org at the main page click on Shopping Mall in the left hand column. Then click on Books and you'll see where you can order Neonatal Nursing Policies, Procedures, Competencies and Clinical Pathways . It serves as a template of policies, guidelines and standard procedures often used in Level II and Level III NICUs. It has oodles of great information! I bought one myself and love it. As they say, "don't reinvent the wheel".

Also, if you go to http://www.nann.org and again click on Shopping Mall in the left hand column and then click on Guidelines instead of Books, you'll find several guidelines for practice published by NANN (National Association of Neonatal Nurses) which includes topics like:

- Developmental Care

- Standards of Care for Neonatal Nursing Practice

- Parenteral Nutrition

- Apnea of Prematurity

- Early Discharge of the Term Infant

- Discharge of Technologically Dependent Infant

- PICCs

- Pain Assessment

- Neonatal Skin Care

I have all of them and found them very helpful many, many times.

I hope this helps in your search for whatever you are looking for...
