I am currently taking pre requisites towards the Nursing program at Springfield Technical Community College, I have taken A&P 1, and 2 and got a 4.0 in them currently taking Microbiology. Anyone recommend any other classes to take? and what is this program like the professors amount of work does anyone who has gone through the STCC program have copies of the class syllabi? I have knocked out a lot of classes with a degree in criminal justice so I would only be taking a couple of classes a semester in the nursing program i believe.

I currently am in my second year of this program. I love it. It is a lot of work but if it wasn't it wouldn't really be helping you. The professors are very supportive. Plan on 16 hours a week at STCC and at least double that amount studying/doing paperwork. I have friends in other programs and they wish they had the tools that STCC provides us with! Best of luck!

I also go to stcc and am applying to the nursing program this spring. I took my TEAS test today and got a 69% which is proficient. What was your score on your teas if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't taken it yet, but will be soon, did you buy the whole package that came with the study guide and the test? it is really expensive I think over $200 f

I just bought 2 of the study guides off amazon. They were about $20 each. I would stick with those because it's basically the basics and you never really know what type of question you will get. know your fractions, decimals, cell structure, and functions!

Hi all,

I am currently a student at STCC and have been since Spring 2015. I have completed all of my prerequisites. what concerns me is that because my microbiology course might be considered too old by about half a semester. For this reason i am taking microbiology (again) this semester and am applying to apply before February 1st. I took the Teas Test last month and got a 75% which is proficient. If the test wasn't so expensive i would take it again. I didn't use a study guide. I have all A's and B's for my prerequisites and i even have A's and B';s for Biology 1 and chemistry 1. Last semester i took biochem, nutrition, bio 1 and Gen chem 1. Next semester (spring semester) i am taking Bio 2, Gen chem 2, Calculus 1, Microbiology, English comp 2 ( Although this class transferred from UMASS i feel like its old so i want to retake it) and i am trying to add on Physics 2. I currently have a 3.3 GPA. I am A certified pharmacy technician but have not worked for about 2 years but i still keep up with my certification and licensure. Due to the time lapse in the job force i cant ask for a recommendation from my past employers so i cant add that to my application package. If i take organic Chem 1 this summer and organic chem 2 and Genetics Fall 2016 i will be able to graduate with my A.S in biology.

I'm hoping that i will get into the program for fall 2016. If not i plan on going to a nearby university (WNEU, AIC,Springfield college, Bay path University ETC). I wish i could go back to UMASS but since i would be a readmitted student i wont receive the grand benefits that a regular MassTransfer student would receive (which sucks). ummm...what else...I'm An West-Indian African American Female Age 24 and was certified as a CPHT when i was 20. My goal is to either be a NP(primary care or mental health) or a CRNA (im not too sure yet it depends on the burnout i will be feeling later on in life. I also have no children and have no plans of having children for another 10 years.

Good Luck everyone I hope everyone gets what they want and i will return to this post to state whether or not i got in. i talked alot in the hopes that people could use me as the parameters of getting in to the RN program at STCC. Thanks buh-bye. :D

Can i ask you a few questions?

How many days a week do you have classes? and for how long? First year and Second year please.

Did you have any clinicals/practicums the first semester? When did they begin?

Congratz and Good Luck. And Thank You.

Clinical starts about 3 weeks into first semester. One day a week for most, a few groups were 2 half days.

Lecture is 2 days a week, in the morning. Lab is once a week. Let me know if you have more questions!

Thankyou very very much. Clinical starts early. That's super scary. If you dont mind what was your TEAS score and did you complete all your prerequisites before you were accepted?

When I applied it was a different director with her own admission method. I entered with my BS in A health care area general sciences done and currently in AP1 and micro when applying. My Teas was a 77 I think. I had not taken any classes at STCC.

The admin process has changed. I don't know if it's for the better, as this years freshman lost a ton of students first semester.

Not it much public speaking. One presentation as a group first semester.

Thank You for the info Penholder.

I spoke to an admissions counselor today who knew a few things about the nursing process. he told me that my teas score is fine as well as the fact that i have redo microbiology this semester (due to expiration date). although this may seem obvious i would not advise anyone to apply who did not achieve atleast 'proficient'. I really hope I get in this fall. Good luck to everyone and thanks again to PenHolder for responding back.
