pros and cons of nsg home vs pt home hospice

Published

Hi everyone,

I am interested in working for hospice, have interviewed, they have 2 positions. Case manager 12 pts, home visits or the same but with nsg home pts. I have 1 year pcu experience, but still find myself asking lots of questions. Not sure which job to ask for? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, that would depend greatly on the nursing homes you are going to be working in. Some nursing homes have a great atmosphere and the staff are appreciative and they love to see you coming. Then there are others that are just the opposite. If the nursing homes are great, then I find it saves time because you don't have all that travel from place to place. Can you talk with some of the other staff to get an idea of the reputation of the nursing homes?

I don't know any of them yet. Maybe I will put the question to the supervisor and have her choose for me. I have always thought I would love hospice and am ready for a change from the chaos of PCU, but kind of intimidated by being out on my own. I know there are resource people I can call, and they told me there would be a 3 week training with the org, and then 2-3 weeks at the facility. I hope that is enough to get me off to a decent start.
