i have heard that if you attend a proprietary, for-profit college the credits might not transfer if you want an advanced degree. is this true? why is this if the school is accredited. I would want to get a CRNA degree eventually.. the proprietary school i am considering is south university. thanx

South University's nursing programs are all accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

You might want to call a few nurse anesthesia schools and ask their department heads if they'll accept any credits that are earned while completing a South University nursing degree.

You won't know without asking the particular school you want to attend for graduate school. It isn't just the nursing accreditation that is important, the overall accreditation of the school can be an insurmountable issue. Academic schools are accredited by different organizations than "trade schools and/or career colleges" ... and the academic university you choose to attend for graduate school may not accept credit from any schools not accredited by the same level of accrediting body.

It depends on the particular schools. Particularly if you want to attend a prestigious university for grad school ... you might want to avoid counting on any "non-academic schools" to transfer.

As long as the college is accredited by the the same accrediting body that accredits all the other schools then I think you will probably be okay. There are some schools that are for-profits that are good and will be able to transfer credits. A lot of the "career" for-profit colleges don't even have any accredidation for their nursing programs.
