  1. Yes, 8 hour shifts are better for accomplishing more things in the daytime, BUT I feel like all I do is work. At the same time, 12 hours shifts make me feel like I work, sleep, then do it all over again. However, its only for a few days a week versus what feels like every damn day. I actually do 8 hour shifts, but often do 12s if a night shift nurse can do the same. I don't mind it.
  2. I finally got an email from school today! I am going to Greencastle!
  3. I did look up the classes for the Spring 2018 view only for Greencastle. Does anyone know if we are supposed to take Pharm the first semester or does it matter? Asking because, the 2 definite first semester courses have a time that is the same as the pharm course. I can't believe orientation happens so closely to the semester start! I am a big planner and that kills me!
  4. Me and a girl from work got accepted to the LPN-ASN at Greencastle!! I'm so excited! NOW, I wonder how long it will be until Orientation, etc!
  5. I applied to Greencastle, Terre Haute, and Anderson for the Spring 2018 LPN to ASN program start. I have 121 points...
  6. I am 80lbs overweight. I take multiple antidepressants. I want to lose weight and be more comfortable in clothes, but I also really enjoy the foods that I'm not supposed to.
  7. I have found the same problem. Or the smell starts once I get overheated at work. Spray and Wash pits after work each time and leave to work until you do laundry. It helps.
  8. Good for you! Love your well thought out and put together vent!
  9. Very standard situation in a nursing home. Pill pushes and documentation...not much of anything else and when you do, it throws of your whole routine. It takes times to get things together and figure out how to manage it all. I have been doing it for 10 years and I still get anxious at work sometimes. The job isn't "hard", but it can be very stressful and overwhelming. Good luck...if you stick with it, you will be just fine...eventually :)
  10. How much do you make and what speciality? Thanks!
  11. I am taking A&P2...I bought a coloring book and colored pencils too. I am excited, but dreading it!! I would full-time and its a lot of studying. I work 3-11 and I am so tired all the time already.
  12. I am technically obese, but look overweight. I am a binge eater, nocturnal eater, and sleep after I eat a lot. That is how I keep my weight on. Plus, with weight and poor nutrition I don't have the energy to make sure I prepare my food for work.
  13. Upon admission, we do 72 hour complete assessment charting, then medicare charting on either 7-3 or 3-11 shift.
  14. Trach can also be LTC...depends on residents abilities and care plan.
  15. Oh, and I currently have 27 residents by myself. I usually work 3-1130, but have been know to pick up 7-3 and 11-7 shifts. 2 CNAs most of the time, but can be just 1 on a very bad day.
  16. After you learn the meds your residents take and you learn the safe shortcuts, then the med pass is the least of your duties/worries...I could give my meds with the MAR closed...the constant interruptions is the most difficult part. Learning to multitask like no other and still trying to maintain some patience with ******* residents and their families. Sometimes the families are the worst. It isn't a hard job, but it is 2/3 of the time very stressful. They are a "joke" in some sense of the word. They "clean house" once a year to take care of business and keep their doors open. The rest of time staff is overworked and underpaid. Residents suffer and management doesn't care.
  17. I'm certain we all have some amount of PTSD.
  18. Not going back for my RN much sooner. OR even just going for my RN and not feeling stuck as an LPN, like I do right now.
  19. YES...I am currently tapering off of Cymbalta by removing beads. It's the bead method. The withdrawal side effects are horrible. I do it slowly enough to help with the side effects. I still feel some emotional/mood changes for a couple days, but then I adjust.
  20. Nursing SCHOOL is to gain KNOWLEDGE for TESTS...not a work-study kind of program. Not on-the-job training. That's why you get orientation when you get a job....AND you will still learn things most days of your career.
  21. I was told the LPN to ASN program was only offered for the application date Feb 1st...starts in the summer???
  22. I am currently working a LTC/SNF job full-time 4-5 day a week. Pay is $18.90/hr, plus $1.00 shift diff for PM shift. I am looking into other facilities in my area due to pay and prefer to work day shift. I have an interview scheduled for Thursday this week. The pay is $20.30/hr base and not sure about differential amounts. The shift would be PMs....but the difference is Monday-Friday 3-11 OR weekend option. Right now I do EOW and various days through the week, except Thursday, because I have a class. IDK what I should do. Take the better paying job with a crappier schedule or stay where I am with a more preferred scheduled. I have one been here for about 3 weeks and I have gotten into a good routine. What would you do? Thanks!
  23. OMG, I would love to work there. Gorgeous area and wonderful hospital. My grandfather was there when he was dying of lung CA and was treated well. What company is that through? Thanks
  24. Haha...I always look...not necessarily to look at my pee or poop, but to make sure I didn't leave a drop or something on the toilet seat!
