  1. Dentures are my kryptonite. There was a patient who was a post-op exploratory lap. She had started to vomit into the trashcan, then made it to the toilet. Her wound had dehisced during her vomiting. As she was being taken back to the OR, she informed us that she had lost her dentures while vomiting. I was assigned the task of finding them. I found the bottom dentures in the vomit filled trashcan. Then I put on a [too short] glove to feel around the toilet as the vomit-toilet water filled my glove. Turns out she had the top ones in her mouth the whole time. They were in a clean denture cup, courtesy of the OR nurses.
  2. 80 year old woman in ED came in via ambulance from a senior activity center with a broken arm. We asked how she broke her arm. She said "We were having a ho-down at the senior center. And I was the ho that went down."
  3. I'd say no. I wouldn't take a significant pay cut, which would probably mean working more. I'd rather focus on my studies. Clinicals are great for networking, so are your professors. Definitely let them know your career goals or desired specialty.

The vinegar worked quite well. No puff of sweaty steam while ironing! But I also took another's advice and have been spraying the pits with Spray&Wash before placing in the hamper. If that works, I'll just put some vinegar in the wash instead of soaking! I've never seen the Febreeze in-wash odor eliminator. I'll have to look for it!
  5. I'd say that's probably program specific. In my program, after we are taught a skill or procedure, it is expected that we practice in the lab. Then there is a due date for being tested on that skill. You must schedule an appointment with an instructor to test off on that skill. This must be done before you are allowed to perform the skill in clinicals. On the clinical unit, if a skill is available to be performed, you must find a clinical instructor and they will "quiz" you on the procedure before you enter the patient's room. If they don't feel that you are competent to perform the skill, you will not be permitted to do it and are required to retest in the lab. If you are allowed to perform the procedure on the patient and do not make any critical errors, then you are signed off on the procedure and are permitted to do the procedure without an instructor present. Both the lab testing and clinical observation are very stressful, so I'd check with a current or former student of the program you're looking into for details.

I like creases! I iron every day of my life, sometimes twice.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have my scrub tops soaking in vinegar as we speak! I'm thinking it's because I'm putting on too much deodorant.... I'm terrified of the dreaded sweat stains, and ceil blue isn't very forgiving! And it's strange, I can sniff test the area right out of the dryer and smell nothing, but once the steam from the iron touches them, I get a big puff of deodorant/sweat smell. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I DO NOT want to be smelly.
  8. So, maybe this is an embarrassing question, but.... I've noticed when ironing scrubs, that there seems to be a lingering odor of perspiration and deodorant in the armpit area. I don't seem to have this problem with any other of my clothes. I always wash scrubs separately in hot water. Does anyone have any other tips on how to prevent this from happening? Thanks in advance!

I'm was in the same situation. I missed the application deadlines for the ADN/ABSN programs in my area, but wanted to switch careers ASAP. I decided to sign up for an LPN program at a vocational school. I truly regret it. I wish I would have continued working in a career that paid well and saved money for another year before making the rash decision to sign up for the program I am in. All of the LPN to RN programs in my area require 2 years of experience to be considered. If your ulitimate goal is to become an RN, like mine, I would wait to reapply next year as becoming an LPN could slow the process down.
