Med surg before psych?
Hey Frank....I took a psych job...about 5 weeks ago and now am sort of thinking about looking at the hospital at a med-surg...In psych...you pass alot of pills...do assesstments...but you don't utilize any skills you have just accomplished..............go to med-surg...perfect some of the skills, and get some other skills they can teach you...it will all come in handy then go onto psych.................you won't regret it.........................Thressa

delimia
:uhoh21: Right out of school I was hired as a GRN at a drug treatment center... I've come to learn that I mostly pass pills and assess detox patients I do like the job BUT... I"m afraid I will lose my skills............I did get a part time job doing some home health...which is my untimate dream...so I won't give that up...but I'm trying to decide if I should go work at the hospital...so I can work on my skills so I don't lose them. I can get oin easly as a few years ago I worked there as a LPN...................I"m in a delimia and need some advice..... :rotfl:

I Need To Pass
Yes I did pass...........I studied 5 NCLEX books...many questions...I studied the practice questions...whet I didn't know I looked up, I took breaks, then studied more.............My favorite books were Saunders, Billings, Lippencott. They are hard but that seemed to help me the most... And you still have plenty of time to practice...take your toime look up some stuff...but the key I think is practice as many questions as possible...but still taking some time for u................GOOD LUCK TO YOU..................THRESSA

I Need To Pass
Take a bit of a break...maybe not 24 hours but study during the day for a while then put it away and watch a movie...or take a relaxing bath...anything but get away from it...you can always go back to it...a evening off does wonders....give it a try...if you can't for a whoile evening at least a few hours...........................GOOD LUCK>>>>.when do you test?? Studying for NCLEX
I think studying as many questions and rationals is best...what you find out you don't know look up in your text books....it really does help...most of the basic stuff yoiu allready know....now practice test taking skills...critical thinking...and like I said if a questions comes up you know nothing about then look it up...don't spend hours researching it either...look it up and you'll remember...it at least I sure did............I learned alot from the questions and rationals.................the more you study the better off your gonna be...and will have more confidence.....which you need plenty of...believe in yourself that helps the most. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and any one else taking the test...I hope my advice helps someone..........................later THRESSA

I Failed! :(
I am very sorry you didn't make it. I was sure you would....I think you should work part time as a CNA to keep you in the mind frame and give you a bit of a break from studying....just work a few days a week...this will still leave you plenty of time to study. I have a cousin who failed and she worked as a CNA and only worked parttime...she said it was the right thing to do...shwe was still making a few bucks....still doing medical stuff and could ask the nurses questions....and had plenty of time to study...she passed second time around. I wish you luck..................THRESSA

The 27th is coming fast and I am SCARED!!!
I learned alot from those darn questions...everytime I looked at them..what I didn'y know I even sometimes looked it up and that helped to really ground it in my mind...........but I agree with you...there's no way you can know everything................this test is set up , it knows you can't possibly know it all............it expects you to know the minimun amount....but it also is set up to pick up on if you know how to delegate, priortize, and make the best judgement...and use critical thinking, which is a major difference bewteen the LPN and RN. The test is also testing your knowledge base on MS and maturnity, Peds, ect....but concentrates on the other areas to.......... My test shut off at 75 and I had questions in all areas but alot were in critical thinking, delegation and priortization. I took my time and thought every question out very carefully. I did that on my practice questions and that training seemed to helped me out alot... I wish you the best luck.... and were here rooooting for you....THRESSA

The 27th is coming fast and I am SCARED!!!
i was a lpn for over 10 years...i took the lpn to rn last year...and i took my stste boards last week...i also had to really stop myself and seperate what i was so use to doing and think as a rn for this test....i did...the delegation is theyre path to see if you can seperate that part and prioritization thats how they can tell if you can except this new role...if at all possible ractice some questions in this area...it helps. its sort of late for that advice...i see your testing today............. so then here's to good luck...........we will be thinking of you....if i could do it you can to......stay strong and believe in yourself............thressa
