No wait list schools
The schools with point systems go by the grades you have. For an Associate's, you take classes like Expository Writing, A&P I/II, Micro, etc. You also get points for attending an information session. It comes out to 127 points total. I was told that a person needs 80 points to be considered for the program. Schools with waitlists normally just require CNA I and the NET or HOBET.

On-line Courses???
I take most of my classes online. The only time people have to attend campus is if they are taking a science or speech class.

No wait list schools
Quite a few of the schools in NC don't have a waiting list. We normally go by a point system.

Anyone here live in Ohio?
I'm not sure, but Ohio has Patient Care Techs. I think they may be the equivalent to CNA II. CNA II's can do cath care, NG tubes, sterile dressing changes, etc. I'm finishing my CNA I class in May and plan on enrolling in CNA II around August.

Anyone good at GPA calculations????
I don't bother. I use http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/Tools/GPACalculator.shtml. So far it's been pretty accurate.

Anyone here live in Ohio?
I'm considering a move there (Columbus) and would like to know: if the schools go by wait list or point systems STNA's: Are they equivalent to a CNA I or II?
-
where in north carolina?
Lol, Bragg Blvd. is still nothing but pawn shops and strip clubs. With a few fast food places of course.
-
Are there any CNA jobs with high pay rates?
The most I've seen is Duke. CNA I's start at $10, CNA II's $11.

What has been your fav prereq??
So far, my English course. I haven't taken a&p or micro yet, so my opinion may change later.
-
Which class is easier?
Philosophy and ethics will require more research and thought. Spanish may be the easiest since you've already taken it. I'd go with the religion class. I agree that you should ask around about the instructors. Or go to ratemyprofessor.com.

online schools cheapen our profession?
I'm a pre-nursing student, but I do know a bit about online learning. I attend a community college and so far have accrued 30 s.h., 22 online. My classes on campus were much easier. All I had to do was show up and take the test. With online learning, I have to post on the DB, write papers, group projects (which I hate), etc. The tests are also online. I still prefer this method due to the convenience. Many of the people I know refuse to take these classes because they know they don't have the discipline to succeed.

When does your spring semester start, and what are you taking?
My school has 16 week, 9 week, and 8 week classes. This time I'm taking 16 week courses (Jan-May) Developmental Psychology Argument-Based Research Western Civilizations I Sociology of the Family I'll be taking A&P this summer.

question about cna classes
I've never heard of a CNA class online. I do know the Red Cross gives classes in some larger cities. If you're already in nursing school, you may be able to sit for the exam now. In NC you can get CNA certification after the first semester of nursing school.

needing some math help
http://sparknotes.com They have tutorials on pretty much everything.
-
what study habits help you?
I admit I don't do anything except read the book for most classes. I have an excellent memory though so this always gets me at least a B. I'm not the greatest in some science and all math, so for those I go to sparknotes.com or practice problems. If I don't feel like doing any work, I remember my motivators: Failing grade=No more aid=Loans or No school=Major Debt or Low-paying job. Always works.

just got done with "interview" at UT
Don't worry about it, I think you gave a good answer. Informing them that you plan on working during the summer shows responsibility. With the financial aid you should be fine. If you still don't have enough, try nursing scholarships or local hospitals.

Advices for new nursing Applicant
Hi, http://princetonreview.com has the average GPA for students if you want to take a look.
-
Pre-RN no expirence jobs
I agree with the others, you should try for Unit Secretary.
-
I Am Innnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats.
-
Do you worry you won't get accepted?
I'm not worried, but only because most of the colleges around me don't have waiting lists. They go by a point system (classes) which is what it should be. As long as I keep getting A's I'll be fine. I remember seeing a CC a few hours from here that operated on a point system based on different factors: GPA, Volunteer, Work, Certification, etc. I think this is a really good idea. I really don't understand why wait lists exist.

Gpa
Currently, I have a 4.0 in pre-nursing classes (This is what they look at for the points system) I have a 2.9 overall, it'll be around 3.2 at the end of the semester. A 2.5 is minimum to apply. I still have a few pre-nursing classes to take: speech, a&p I/II, micro
-
What would you do?
I'd drop the class, as long as it won't affect your GPA. I had to do this last year for biology. I think you should brush up on your skills, then take the class next semester. Hopefully you'll get a different instructor. The Complete Idiot's Guide for Algebra is helping me. You should also check out: http://www.sparknotes.com http://www.math.com

Med techs
My sister was a CNA I for several years in both Va and NC. In one of her jobs, they wanted her to pass meds with hardly any knowledge. I remember her saying the task made her feel very uncomfortable.
