  1. I went back to the school that I got suspended from (went to community college in the mean time) and finished up my pre-reqs + retook classes I did bad in to boost my GPA from there, thus boosting my cumulative GPA. I am now in a nursing program
  2. Hey everyone I am in my second year of nursing school and I have to retake pharmacology. I was wondering what supplemental resources you guys used?
  3. I'm 25 now, and I'll be 26 going on 27 when I graduate with my BSN. Is it old? No, but considering that some of my classmate aren't even 20 yet, I sure feel it. I once read on here something that stuck with me: Do you want to be __ years old and a nurse, or __ years old still wishing you were one?
  4. I've personally referred to myself as a "pre-nursing" student while I was taking my prereqs. I'm in my program now, but I still have a math class left. Once I start my first NR class in July, I will feel like an official nursing student. That's just me.
  5. I've researched schools that have "first attempts only" for science pre-reqs, so I'm assuming withdraws count as an attempt. I doubt they would budge due to you having letters of recommendations but it never hurts to try. It comes down to the program that you are applying to.
  6. I got my Titer and the first step of my TB done in the same day. Got the Titer results about a week later and my second step done about 3 weeks later (didn't know at first that I needed a 2-step)
  7. One of the main reasons I believe I couldn't be a pediatric nurse. I'm not sure I could contain myself in situations like these especially since I am a mother myself. Thank you for sharing.
  8. Thank you guys !
  9. Hello all! I'm proud to FINALLY say that after 5 years I am starting my BSN program in January..........if I get an A in Fundamentals of Chemistry this upcoming fall semester . If I don't get an A, I wouldn't start until May, which would suck because I would be done with my pre-reqs and would feel like I am wasting time. The only other class I am taking is Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (gpa booster), and I read reviews on the teacher so I'm not worried about that class. What tools/websites did you guys use to help study for Chemistry? I know I can get an A if I dedicate the time to it. Appreciate the help!
  10. Same as above. I love the idea of not knowing what's coming through the door, or what my day will consist of, which is why ER/ICU interests me. I also love being around and taking care of babies, which is why I'm also interested in NICU.
  11. I got Critical Care Nurse and that's what I plan on pursuing :)
  12. ER/ICU for me. I eventually want to get my Master's degree. I'm also open to Labor & Delivery
  13. I took A&P along with history and nutrition in the same semester
  14. I love fun threads like this ! "guilty pleasures" -caramel fraps from Starbucks extra caramel -oreos soaked in milk -mini churros from jack n the box -"jamocha" flavored ice-cream from baskin robbins -HOT WINGS with ranch -pepperoni pizza On a serious note , I don't exercise as much as I should, so I finally made a schedule that I plan on sticking with .Vacation in July! I'm also going to start making smoothies in the morning since I almost always skip breakfast. Bye bye to my faves
  15. My spring break doesn't start until next week, but I will be spending mine like you are: gym and hanging out with my son. Looking forward to it! It's much needed :)
  16. Love this! I was 17 when I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. Started college with the hopes of becoming a healthcare administrator, but then I had my son and realized I wanted to be hands-on, so I started taking pre-reqs for nursing. Fast forward to today, I am 23 and I start nursing school in January. ( had a few rocky years of college). I will be 25-26 when I graduate, and that doesn't bother me. You are not old at all, and everyone's journey is different.
  17. Great read... it really is unfortunate how much our society avoids/fears death. Sometimes it really is the best thing.
  18. Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that whether you are just starting your nursing journey, or waiting to get accepted into a program , to keep going no matter how long you believe it will take. My biggest issue throughout college so far has been comparing where I am to where other people are. I graduated HS in 2010, so a lot of my peers already have their degrees. My first two years of college were disastrous, so I spent 2 more years playing "catch up". Next semester will be my last before applying to my program, since my pre-reqs will be done. Even though I will be 24 by the time I finally start, that no longer bothers me. We are so set in the idea that we are supposed to meet certain milestones in our life at an "acceptable age", that it brings us down when we don't. I have learned that comparison really is the thief of joy, and you never know how many people are fighting to get where you are. Keep going! :) The time will pass anyway.
  19. I just have micro and fundamentals of chem left. I'm gonna tackle them both next semester
  20. For me, I was originally interested in Pediatrics, but lately I've been leaning towards Emergency/ICU
  21. Logic Interpersonal communications World cultures (re-take for grade mod.) Human sexuality(gpa booster) Since I won't be taking any science classes, this will easily be a 4.0 semester for me :)
  22. Hello! I would definitely recommend re-taking classes to boost your GPA since its so important when it comes to applying for nursing school. Look into the nursing programs that you are interested in because they might have different minimum GPA requirements, and/or might say things like "first attempt only" on sciences classes and stuff like that. I understand your frustration: my first 2 years of college were terrible, so it's taking me a little longer to reach the goal. Don't give up!!
  23. I'm so glad I came across this post. I find myself feeling the same way from time to time but I have to remind myself that everyone's situations are different. I graduated high school in '10 so a lot of my peers just received their college degrees, and I won't start my nursing program till June of next year. Focus on the "now" and before you know it, you'll be done too and it will feel amazing :-)
  24. Hello everyone! I have a question: have you ever been or have heard of, a college not accepting you because you have multiple class drops? I ask because my advisors constantly ask if it would affect me getting into my program of choice(it won't in my case) I feel that as long as it doesn't affect your GPA, it shouldn't matter.
