Psata. You don't know me so don't assume. I dont attend WCU and don't plan too. I just happen to be browsing the forum and I have responded on other threads not just WCU. If making a statement about not harshly attacking people who inquire about a school really bothers you the I apologize. I don't endorse any school nor promote them. Just giving an individual feedback as the moderators say everyone has a freedom to speak. If only WCU post your looking at them that's on you. I have seen people call others stupid and an idiot and all kinds of harsh words. I just say they should not be disrespected with such words. If it's allowed on this website then let me know and I will keep quiet and avoid all the negative threads.

I am not a student of WCU nor have any affiliation with it. Just Stated there was no need to speak so harshly to individuals on a forum that should be positive and for people to receive feedback. There is only one school that I know of for sure which is Western Governors University who contract with Straighterline.com who does online science classes with online labs. I think Azuza.Pacifc might as well. The majority of schools do not take them. Good Luck!!

Wow! What harsh words spoken to someone inquiring. There was no need to judge an individual based on their choice of schools. It is an individual choice. They are grown and can make decisions for themselves. No need to speak negativity towards anyone on this forum. It is no ones place to. How about offer friendly advice instead of negative and rude comments. Now as far as West Coast University, it is not for low grade people or people who do poor in academics. They just don't have a wait list and you can start with them as long as you meet their requirements. They are very expensive $130,000 expensive so if you are not prepared to pay that kind of money then don't apply. I doubt they accept monthly payments. Never heard of a school that does that. You either pay out of pocket or get financial aid to assist. From other students, the program is very intense so if you are not at getting through programs, you may not want to try WCU. You may want to check the other programs that offer programs at much cheaper cost and consider starting at ADN and then move into a BSN. West Coast is very very expensive and they are serious about their money. You can not work and go through the program so you could not afford a monthly payment anyway because they will charge an interest rate which will push your cost even higher. Good Luck.

I agree with hppygr8ful and eekxitsem. I was born and raised in California. From Northern California but have been in Southern California for soon to make 15 years now. It is too expensive, the nursing jobs are not easy to get, there are a lot of graduates and experienced nurses having a hard time finding jobs that already live here. We are in extreme drought, taxes are high and cost of living is very high. You have to watch where you live and traffic is horrendous. If given the opportunity to move out of state I will take it in a heart beat. Being in California all my 42 years of life, it has only went down hill. Never up from what I have experienced. Anyone wanting to come to California will probably want to return to where they were or find another state. A lot of Californian are moving out to Texas, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia from what I have heard throughout my years of living. I am looking at Georgia myself. I work for the government so I know it won't be Real Hard for me but it will be hard enough. It is even worse for anyone trying to come here. I went to visit family in Arkansas and the $80,000 home my cousin had that looked like a mansion would cost over a million dollars in California. You will find homes under $200,000 that a nice size and a lot of space unless its possibly in foreclosure or in a very bad neighborhood. So please if you plan to move, have money saved up and be prepared to get only half of what you earn in pay because taxes are a killer here and rent is high.

You can do reserves in a similar MOS and go to school for your BSN and when you are done check with the recruiter about reclassifing to RN after you receive your BSN and get your license.

To be an Army Nurse You Need A BSN to receive commission as a nurse. I plan to get my BSN to get back in the Army as a nurse.

I agree with everyone who has responded. Torrance Little Company of Mary Hospital is a great hospital too. I would not go to Centinela Hospital. Hear too many bad stories about the. Long Beach Memorial is awesome. Los Alamitos Memorial is a good hospital. Just ensure you have a job already and will start working once you are moved. This state is saturated with nurses because of all of the the nursing programs here. New and Experienced nursing have trouble finding work even though the job postings are out there. It is great you are getting your BSN because most hospitals are only hiring BSN. You won't find many ADN or license positions. Apply, Apply, and Apply. There is also the VA in West Los Angeles and Long Beach. They are constantly hiring. I work for the government and plan to transfer to the VA once I get my BSN. They pay well. I am a student at NUs Los Angeles Campus. You do just like you would do any other class. Not like a nursing class. I work full time and have done my A&P classes and Micro there. 8 weeks of work. Study the material, finish the labs and pass the exams and you are good. As with any class you need to study to learn the information taught to you. It also depends on the instructor. One A&P class, we competed the lab workbook reviews and studied the study guide given to us and you just had to read your textbook to learn the material. The study guide was what was tested. I had the same teacher for A&P I and Micro. The A&P II teacher is more difficult. He requires all checkpoint questions in each chapter answered(25 Plus Questions each chapter) and then you had to turn in the Lab review and use your knowledge portion of the lab and then you are given a lot of review only a day or 2 prior to the exams. He is a lot harder. You have to study if you want to learn. The more you study the better you will be at learning the material. It is a personal preference. You can work and go to school for pre-reqs, they just don't suggest it for nursing because there is much more work and way more to study and learn.

Yeah he gave me all the deadlines for the hospitals. I Chose the October cohort at Cedar Sinai. The app deadline is July 1st.

Hey Kandy, Everything is good. I am finishing two classes right now then I will go for my TEAS. Are you talking about the personal statement? I submitted that last year and the only thing left is the Psychology class I need and the A&P 2. I am doing those now. Can't wait for it to be over. How are things with you?

They are WASC Accredited and Approved by the California BRN. They only have an LVN to RN and LVN program in California. They offer RN program in Phoenix, AZ and Reno, NV. They are a certificate program only. No degree. The only degree they offer are Associates in Health Studies. Here is the website. You would have to search or call the campus for tuition rates.

They always say they are not looking for book smart nurses but that the nurse is competent in doing completing their skills and can provide quality nursing care. Any nurse can be book smart, but can they successfully give IV Meds, or insert a GTube or give the proper medication. They want you to know how to do your job not just read books and pass an exam. You major assessments are on your skills. Can you perform them or not. If you can't you won't pass.

I can say WGU is an awesome school and not doing the typical grading scales has not stopped any student from furthering their education and getting awesome jobs. Their degree is transferrable and there are nurses with higher educations and licenses after starting at WGU. I have seen people say they had no problem getting into a CRNA program and I plan to go for Nurse Practitioner after I start the BSN program at WGU. It is a very reputable school and hospitals are contracted with them to do their clinical training with nurses who are already employed with the hospital that conduct clinicals one on one as a Clinical Coach or Instructor. They only offer clinicals at major hospitals in So California, Cedar Sinai, Huntington Memorial, and a couple of big hospitals in Orange and Riverside County.

Go to the Colleges section and click on the Western Governors University Icon. You will find many posts about the school and information from current and former students.

Tuition is $16,550 per semester. So if you multiply that by the courses you need to take then you will get your amount. You need to have them do a transcript evaluation to determine what pre-req classes will they accept. They don't always accept some classes and there are classes they require you to take on campus. The program is 39 months with all classes. It won't drop down to half the time but it will reduce a couple months or so. Tuition will drop depending on which courses they allow you to transfer. It might drop to like 30 months or so but I can't really say because it depends on what you need and the pre-reqs that are accepted. You will need to talk to an enrollment counselor and attend an information session to get more accurate information. I have found that West Coast University is not well liked on this website. I stopped talking about it.

You all take the TEAS at campus in Florida? We take the HESI Exam in California at the campus.

Good Advice tsm007. I asked mine and he would not tell me what will bump me up but he said the Personal Statement and experience is a big key in becoming a good candidate for the program. He did say you need to make yourself Stand Out above the others. Your packet needs to get the Committees attention. Not look like every other application coming through. The Teas Score have to be passed at the Proficient, Advanced or Exemplary level. One thing he told me about the Personal Statement is do not start with the usual "I have always wanted to be a nurse" or "I like nursing for the money" They want to hear your passion about the field and helping others and any experiences that you have had in the medical field that created a desire for the nursing field. Stuff like that. They do not want to usual potential student statement. What will help you stand out. They won't give you what to say or exactly what to talk about but will give you some hints on what to include and what to avoid. Because California has only a small amount of facilities they have become very selective and any extras make you more competitive for them.

#1 Step required before doing anything is You must call the school and talk to a Pre-Licensing Enrollment Counselor First. I have been in the process about a year now for the pre-licensing. Had a few things to complete. 1st, The enrollment counselor does a quick interview in the beginning to determine if you are the right fit to apply for the school. If they see you as a good candidate for the school, they will send you an email with ALL the requirements you need prepare and submit. They will be your go to person at all times and they will set up followup appointments to keep updated and continue to let you know whats next and the start dates of each location and deadlines. They want to see some experience in some type of medical field, CNA, Medical Assistant, LVN, something you have a cert in and some work experience. If you don't have it you can still apply but they will accept someone with medical experience over someone without. Good Letter of references preferrably from a medical field supervisor, They prefer a Bachelor or Associate degree in any thing, Completion of Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 Or if you have an A&P I, You can take Human Physiology as well and Microbiology. ALL Sciences must have a LAB component. They also require all transcripts, a TEAS Score and a Healthcare Provider CPR Card. You will create a Personal Statment as to why you want to become a nurse, why you want to be a WGU student and so forth. Once you have submitted everything for the nursing packet your enrollment counselor will then get your packet submitted to the committee who make the selections You do not just submit a packet yourself for Pre-Licensing.
