Finding a job WITH experience?
...Well, that was heck of an answer lol. If I don't get it, I don't get it. No big deal. I'm not HAVING to move to CA. I've scrolled through the past few pages and can't see anything about job hunting aside from new grads, hence the post.

Finding a job WITH experience?
Hi everyone! Ive been skimming through this board and it looks like most of the topics are regarding students/new grads, so I wanted to see what the job market like for someone with experience (specifically LA)? I have my BSN, have three years experience in rehab and currently work in ICU (just coming up under a year) at a magnet hospital in the Washington DC area. Thanks!

Vacation and new job...thoughts?
Hi everyone, just wanted to get opinions on this matter... I recently accepted a position at another hospital within the same organization, so basically I'll just be transferring...I will be staying at my current unit for one more month, then begin an 8-12 week orientation (depending on my needs). The job was offered to me a few days ago via phone call, and will be officially signing the offer letter in a few days. That being said, my husband and I have been planning a honeymoon for the very end of September to early October, (about two weeks). I certainly plan on telling HR/recruiter tomorrow, but was wondering how everyone else felt on the chances that they won't take back my offer and allow me to take the time off. Of course, I will also tell them that I am willing to postpone the honeymoon. Again, it is the same organization, and I have more than enough PTO hours (actually, will be hitting max PTO soon). Thanks!

Major hospitals in L.A?
Wow, that's great to hear. What about some of the other hospitals in the L.A. area? What are their reputations like? The only other major hospital I know of in L.A. is Cedars-Sinai, for obvious reasons. I've googled a bunch of hospitals and saw Long Beach Memorial, Huntington Memorial, Torrance Memorial, St. Vincent, etc...do these hospitals also have a good reputation? And is pay pretty much the same among them (including UCLA?) Thank you so much! Would like to know as much as I can before I make such a decision to move across the country!

Major hospitals in L.A?
Hi everyone, East Coaster here, and thinking about relocating to CA maybe within a year. Just wondering what the major/well-known hospitals were around the Los Angeles area (Pasadena, downtown, Long Beach, etc.). and what their reputations are like. Rough estimate on pay as well would be nice. The cost of living is not too surprising, as we live in Washington D.C. I'm a med-surg RN that has been working for two years and will have my BSN at the end of the month. Lastly, is nursing in CA as good as everyone says? (Excluding pay, but nurse-to-patient ratios, scheduling, etc). Thanks!

Chamberlain college of nursing...arlington campus...
I'm an RN who graduated from NVCC and have had no experience taking courses at Chamberlain but I have to say, when the students visit the unit, the overall education seems poor. I have noticed that other schools have more bedside etiquette (many Chamberlain students just walk into patients rooms, etc, prolly the instructor's fault) and their instructors push them. Many of the chamberlain instructors find an empty computer and do whatever, while others I notice, push their students, follow them around, etc. Huge disservice to the students. Also, I don't think chamberlain holds as much weight as other schools in the area (I.e. Like a university of phoenix). Why is it that so many ppl are attracted to Chamberlain when there are many more schools in the area that offer a high quality education and cheaper?!

Opinions? Father in hospice...
Hi everyone, I am a nurse (but not hospice), and am dealing with my father who has been in hospice for two days now, following a two week hospitilization for thyroid storm and aspiration pneumonia, and also has end stage Parkinson's. From your experience, how much time do you think Dad has until he makes peace? He is not getting any hydration/nutrition, and is 59 years old. He was on continuous IV fluids the whole time he was in the hospital. He is pretty much sleeping the whole time, but has moments where he gets agitated (or could just be a manifestation of his Parkinson's). He does not communicate, but squeezes our hands. thank you everyone. They say nursing is a calling, but now having the hospice experience, I can definitely say that hospice nursing is a calling.

Inova Health System
Hm...I was told by two HR people it is NOT a cliinical position (as we are not assigned to a specific unit)...you would train, then assist staff with transitioning to the new software....then after about a year, a more permanent position (i.e. a fellowship on a unit) would be offered. My understanding was that we would not be providing bedside care.

Inova Health System
I'll be a super user as well! Interview/hired past Thursday! During my interview, I also mentioned how I had applied for an RN-BSN program...I think the interviewer gave that a big plus. SO happy and relieved to not be looking anymore! Since January, I've applied to over 250 positions...yep, 250!!! The interviewer was very surprised I hadn't gotten a job yet...she thought I had already been on an interview with Inova since I had interviewed so well! Haha! (Had to toot my own horn there....not finding a job has been incredibly depressing!!!)

"What have you been doing since graduating?"
I am a "new" grad (graduated from nursing school (ADN) last year) and have had no luck with getting hired. I've had a few phone calls and interviews and almost EVERYONE asks what I have been doing since I've finished nursing school. And apparently you shouldn't be telling them you've been looking for a job. How can I answer this question? I know it's important to keep your skills up by working in the field somehow, but I CAN NOT even get a job as a medical assistant or tech/CNA because I am "overqualified" (perhaps a liability for the facility?), which has also been extremely frustrating.

Pearsonvue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 3
Hey all! I'm sure this has been discussed MANY times (sorry, didn't feel like reading through all the pages of this post ) but what if I got, I guess, the "old" good message? ("Our current records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your board member for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time"). Does this still mean I passed? Or could it be just a waiting period? (Took the NCLEX at noon today and finished around 4...)...Could the fact that I also tested in DC for a VA license affect anything? SO SCARED!
